(More customer reviews)Before I got this adapter, I was just using a cassette adapter and an FM transmitter in the car. In both cases the iPod was struggling to provide enough power output to provide clean undistorted sound, and still having to crank the volume control up all the way on both the car stereo and the iPod.
This product solves that problem, and charges your iPod to boot. It uses the new line out capabilities through the docking connector. You then plug your adapter into a mini-plug jack located on the power adapter. Adjust the aplifier volume on the adapter as well. The built in amplifier provides enough power now so I don't have to crank the volume on the car stereo, making the sound to be fuller, richer, more accurate and eliminating all the hiss & noise caused by having to turn up the car stereo all the way.
The only things that might need to consider is the mini-plug output for the amplifier and volume controls are on the side of the cigarette plug. While this wasn't a problem for me, people with resessed power plugs in their cars might have difficulty with it if your cassette adapter/fm transmitter doesn't have a angled plug (I have a MB that has a power adapter in a recessed ashtray and it's challenging to use that plug because of space requirements, but does work after some adjustment). Belkin should have put these on opposite sides of the device, but should only be a minor inconvience. I don't envision anyone having to adjust the output volume very often, after you set it for the first time.
I highly reccomend this product to anyone wanting to listen to their iPod in the car.

On a more positive note, it does hold the iPod in a convenient location, and does have a 'pass-thru' port that allows a charger to be connected. The price I paid was ridiculously low, so I can't possibly complain.

(More customer reviews)I am so torn on how to rate this, but I want to say first that I have read a number of reviews here on Amazon and elsewhere complaining about the "static" that this device allegedly produces. Anytime you mix power and sound, you get problems with grounding. There is a device called a "ground loop isolator" (GLI) that will eliminate the buzz. The buzzing is NOT a result of this being a crappy product, it is a result of poorly setup audio inputs in cars (either 3rd party or OEM). If you are not using a GLI, expect to have annoying buzzing when using a device like this, but don't blame it on the device itself.
I am on my second one of these, contemplating buying a third (and no, not because I like to stockpile them and/or waste money). My first one started to come apart between the wire and the part that plugs into the iPod. It may have partially been my fault, as people tend to tug the wire sometimes and it might have pulled loose, but I like to think that this thing should have been able to handle a little bit of that.
So I replaced that first one once it fell apart completely (mostly aggravated at that point by me trying to fix it), and the one I have now always cuts out the left channel. I have to unplug and replug the 1/8" connector over and over again to make good contact. It is highly annoying, and I am ready to replace it again. I think that the first one really might have been a problem of not enough TLC on my end, and the second one could very well be the one bad one out of a batch of many, but I really hesitate to buy a third at this point.
But the reason I am even considering it after all the trouble I have had is that when these things work, they work really well. It charges and plays the music all through one wire, using the audio output of the iPod (so the iPod volume doesn't come into play). It automatically pauses when I turn off my car (might be different from car to car depending on how the power to the 12v outlet is switched in your car) which is very convenient. I wish that it could somehow magically unpause when I started the car back up, but that is technically not very feasible. The bottom line is that when this works, this is an incredible product (that I have yet to find a good competitor for from another company).
Hopefully when and if I buy another one of these, I get a good one.

(More customer reviews)I was impressed by most of the equipment in this package - except for the fact that nothing came with any instructions. Probably most people would know how to unfold the Foldable Speaker and use it, and run the LCD FM Transmitter - but I did not. Having instructions would have helped me figure things out a lot faster. Also, the two screen protectors were worthless. Firstly, I could not get the sticky tabs off the protectors. The paper came off but I was left with two tab-sized gluey surfaces that left sticky spots on my iTouch screen. The tabs were unnecessary, anyway, the way the protector was packaged. Secondly, the screen protectors didn't stick to the surface of the iTouch screen so I couldn't use them. Again, the instructions were vague at best. I loved the silicone skin cases, especially the pink and blue cases. They did cover the lovely metal back on my iTouch, but they looked great on. Aside from these two problems it's a fairly good buy.

(More customer reviews)I haven't tried the car-charger piece yet, as I have another iPod charger that I leave in the car. I purchased this item so that I could have a plug-in charger available whenever I needed one, instead of having to keep my iPod at my computer to charge with the sync cable. I repeatedly get a "Charging is not supported with this accessory" warning while my iPod Touch 3G is plugged in, and the battery indicator on the iPod doesn't register that it's being charged. However, the percentage of battery left does go up, which means it IS being charged. The biggest issue I have with this item is that the charge is unbearably slow. I left my iPod plugged in overnight and didn't get a full charge (which only takes about 2 hours with the original sync/charge cable from Apple) -- I don't know whether this is an inherent limitation of the charger itself or the fact that it doesn't sit firmly in electrical outlets (and thus may only be receiving intermittent current). Also, the cable itself is pretty short, so it's not very useful if you want to charge your device while using it ... unless you want to lay on the floor next to the outlet. :D

Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter for iPod & iPhone (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)Well, I don't know exactly why the passPORT won't work for the 1-star reviewer, BUT IT WORKED FOR ME! I got a Panasonic CQ-C7303U radio 2 years ago and then the iPod adapter for it over 1 year ago. At that time, I had the 5th gen iPod video, then after that crapped out on me, I got the 3rd gen. nano (8GB). Then I upgraded to the 4th gen. nano almost as soon as it came out, so I could have double the memory (16GB).

Well, once I got the 4th gen. nano and plugged it into my radio, everything worked (it played/controlled through the radio), but I would get this message at the bottom of the nano's screen saying: "Charging is not supported for this accessory". (Or something like that.) And indeed the nano lost battery power much faster than it would listening to music through the headphones. (It makes since that more juice would be sucked up listening to music through the docking port.) Since I mostly listen to my nano in my truck (Panasonic radio), I depended on the radio to keep it charged up instead of having to plug it into my computer whenever the battery gets low. After doing some reasearch on why this was, I found out that for all the newest ipods (4th gen. nano, 2nd gen. Touch & iPhone 3G) Apple changed the way they charge that only allows 5 volt sources (USB, Apple AC adapters, etc.) and no 12 volt sources (firewire and most 3rd party accessories).
To make a long story short (too late!), I found a link to the passPORT, ordered one and plugged it in. I plugged in my nano on top of it and the message at the bottom of it now just reads: "Accessory is plugged in". (Or something like that) After looking real close, the charge icons appear in the battery symbol (showing charging or charged) and when I unplug it, the battery is fully charged or charged fuller than it was before. It kinda sucks to have to pay $30 to get back a feature that shouldn't have been taken away in the first place, but I guess that's the price of progress?
Well...OK, despite the title, I guess I did have more to say than IT WORKS!**UPDATE**: Just bought a 64GB Ipod Touch (3rd Gen.) and the passPORT works just fine with it too!

Griffin AutoPilot for iPod Review

(More customer reviews)I emailed Griffin asking if they had something like this for the iphone 3g and they told me they had tested it and it worked perfectly. I ordered it and they were right! It works great. The only issue is it complains that its not iphone compatible but it charges the unit and plays the music thru the audio out perfectly. I also am not detecting any serious cell phone signal issues.
So if you want a fairly compact charger and audio out solution (you must have some sort of audio in on your car stereo, even a cassette adapter will work) then this is perfect. I also use the buttons to pause and change tracks which I thought for sure I would not. Turns out its a lot easier to press the buttons on the charger than on my iphone.

The power button was completely smashed in. The product itself was very cheap, and chinsey feeling. It could break if you sneezed on it too hard. But since I wasnt really buying this for the transmitter Im not too terribly upset about it. But if you are buying this for the transmitter I recommend you look elsewhere, cuz this thing is CRAP!! The rest of the products work as advertised. The foldable speakers arent the highest quality sound,but good for what they are. All the cases fit the ipod, and the screen protector work as well. All the chargers and cords do there thing. Now its just a matter of how long these products continue to work

(More customer reviews)This is a pretty awesome FM transmitter. My 30gb Zune works perfectly with it.
You have to turn the Zune all the way up for you to be able to listen to music effectively but that isn't a problem.
The signal isn't ultra strong but if you have the music playing it isn't very noticeable.
The cradle that the transmitter creates for the Zune is amazing. It holds it in place gently, yet firmly.
I really only have three problems with the product, both are minor.
For one thing, the plug that plugs into your cigarette lighter is really long. It stretches out a good three inches or so. This could be good or bad considering your setup. Luckily mine just fit. Also, the LCD is hard to view at most angles. Lastly, the remote is pretty useless. It isn't very responsive and I can't really figure out how to work it.
Overall I would say that this is worth it if you are looking for a 30gb Zune compatible FM transmitter that doesn't break the bank like the official Zune transmitter pack.

(More customer reviews)I haven't had this very long yet, so not sure about how it will stand up to any abuse, but I love it so far. I'm using it on a Nano G4. I have had several other cheap FM transmitters for other MP3 players. Most of them really didn't have enough transmitter power to be really clear - you could hear random static, and radio stations trying to bleed through, during the quiet spots between songs. This unit seems to have plenty of power, even when running off of the Nano battery. There is a slight very high pitch tone present when using the charger unit, but it is not very noticeable - may very well be a characteristic of my Honda CR-V electrical system. Can't hear it when there is any music playing. It sounds great - clear, and with plenty of punch. My daughter has a unit from Monster that she uses on her full size iPod, and it works well, but it cost almost $90 a few years ago, and it is kind of bulky (though it has stood up well). This unit is smaller, lighter, and much cheaper, and seems to work just as well. The remote is handy, though a lot of the buttons are for the iPhone. It does make it easier to jump to the next song, or mute the unit, without having to handle the shuttle wheel on the Nano, especially when driving. I am getting another one for my Wife. Since her car cigarette lighter is broken at the moment, the ability to use it on the Nano battery (without the charger plugged in) will work well for her.

(More customer reviews)UPDATE - Be aware that there are different models of these and Amazon lumps at least two of them together as item ASIN B002ECB0Q0. I bought another one from Bargaincell, it turned out to be extremely low quality, all cables broke at the connector molding within weeks. The first one I bought, from CrazyOnDigital is still working fine.
I bought this 8 in one FM transmitter car charger cradle for iPhone 3gs, Amazon item ASIN B002ECB0Q0.
The cradle holds the phone securely, the charger works fine, the FM transmitter works well, and the remote control works also. If the price wasn't so low, I may have given it fewer stars but this thing is a great value so I forgive its minor quirks. The cradle holds my phone in a good position in my '07 Civic, your vehicle may be different so consider your layout before ordering.
The cradle seems fairly robust, no phone slippage or cradle rotation in the lighter socket so far.
The FM transmitter can be set to any frequency on the dial. I've owned several transmitters and this one is the best. It works even on frequencies that have stations with weak signals on them, this is unusual for consumer FM transmitters. It may be that my unit is a particularly good one but hopefully all of these are good. The FM transmitter can be set to several preset stations and those can be selected with the remote control to avoid interference while traveling, this is a nice feature.
A downside to this unit with an iPhone is that it does not advertise it is shielded from GSM noise to the phone. When you plug it in, the phone says the device is not designed for iPhone and asks if you want airplane mode. If you leave the phone radio on, you will occasionally hear GSM interference on your radio speakers, not very loud though. To avoid that problem altogether, it also has an audio out 3.5mm port and comes with a six or eight inch cable to plug in to your car's aux port. This works fine if your car has one, no GSM noise at all.
Another downside is you have to point the remote at the top of the unit to get it to work, a small annoyance. It does not come with a manual. If you need one, pass this unit up.
For me, so far, so good I like this unit.
