Scosche RF Remote Control for iPod classic 5G, 5.5G (Black) Review

Scosche RF Remote Control for iPod classic 5G, 5.5G (Black)

I purchased this remote for my Ipod Video (30GB). When I first took it out of the box, I was very happy, its color is the same as my iPod (black) and it also has the same width.
The unit fits OK with the iPod and the remote control is small and cool, but I found some flaws:
1. The unit easily disconnects if you maneuver the iPod in the car, for example, and I don't mean a drastic movement.
2. The remote control, it says up to 150ft.... yeah right, that is NOT true, even within the car (I have a small car) if you don't point the remote directly to the unit, it won't work. It also is kind of slow when you push the button to change a song and when the iPod actually change it.
The reason I rate this with 2 stars is because the unit, when it works, takes away that uncomfortable task to change the song by touching the iPod itself.

The remote is also easy to set up: simply plug theincluded receiver into your iPod video's dock connection and you're set. And thanks tothe receiver's pass-through connection, you can add a charger, FM transmitter, orBluetooth accessory to the bottom without disconnecting the dock cable. Griffin Technology Auxiliary Audio Cable with Inline Remote Control Review

Griffin Technology Auxiliary Audio Cable with Inline Remote Control

I did not pick this up through Amazon, but at "Wal-ly World", and I paid $14.88 for it. So, I'm giving it four stars for the price. You can pick up an input cable for a couple of dollars, but as soon as I saw the remote so I don't have to keep messing with my Touch, I was sold. Does everything it says. connect one end of the remote into the iPod Touch/ iPhone, and the other into the input jack of your car... and you are hearing good/ great quality sound! As soon as I tried this method rather than my FM transmitter, I was sold and gave my transmitter away that same night. No hiss. Sounds great. Overall five stars, but the cost takes it down one star to FOUR.

Griffin Airclick Mini Remote Control for iPod Mini Review

Griffin Airclick Mini Remote Control for iPod Mini
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is another brilliant item from the folks at Griffin Technologies and I suspect that it will supplant the iPod Remote from Apple that I currently use when riding my motorcycle. Why? It's wireless. Better yet, it's RF (radio frequency) wireless instead of infrared. Indeed, this is the first remote control for the iPod/iPod Mini that uses RF instead of infrared. This means that it does not need line of sight/directly pointed at the iPod but instead can work through walls, backpacks, etc. The unit comes with a clip as well as a mounting piece/holder for the remote - you can use it as an armband or to mount on handlebars, etc.
Other plusses are that the radio operates at 433 mHz - not likely to be subject to, or cause, interference with cordless phones, microwaves, cell phones, wireless routers, etc. as it is in a different frequency band from those items. Also, the fit is tailored to the iPod mini - like the iTrip, it fits flush and square to your mini - a nice, clean solution and it has a headphone passthrough (which is to be expected).
I do have some minor nits to pick. First, the headphone passthrough is not compatible with Griffin iTrip. You could use another FM transmitter (like the Belkin TuneCast (ick)), but you cannot use the very nice iTrip. I mostly use the iTrip in the car though, where I do not typically need or use a remote - so I do not expect this to be an issue for me, but it might bug someone else. Second, this is a five function remote for a seven function iPod. The FF, REW, Vol +, Vol -, and Play/Pause functions are replicated on this remote, the Menu and Select functions are not. Accordingly, you cannot navigate menus or between playlists, etc. This is not really a Griffin complaint, but an Apple issue as I don't believe Apple allows for a seven-function remote implementation (as all remotes I have seen are five function plus a hold switch). Third, the remote (really any wireless remote) will use some additional amount of your mini's power. Finally the 60 ft. range is probably overstated and is only for the most ideal conditions - no walls, etc.

This remote has a very short, line-of-sight range due to the fact that it's an IR remote. There's a large sensor on the bottom of the base receiver. If you can't see it, you can't use the remote. From what I can tell, the range overall is roughly 5 feet maybe, depending on the angle.

DLO Tune Stick Review

DLO Tune Stick
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This unit is cleverly designed, and functions adequately...some of the time. Interference from power lines and radio signal relays regularly disrupt "broadcasts" from one's iPod to the FM station selected. As one travels, other stations can routinely be heard, replacing the programming on one's iPod. It's pretty annoying, and frequently renders the listening experience genuinely unpleasant.

TuneStik combines a wireless FM transmitter with a powerful RF remote control for iPod playback and control in the car, at home--anywhere there's an FM radio. What sets TuneStik apart from the pack of existing FM transmitters is the included remote control plus an integrated pass-through dock connector, which gives you the freedom to combine TuneStik with virtually any iPod accessory--adding an RF remote and an FM transmitter to nearly all your iPod gear.

Keep your hands on the wheel The TuneStik includes a compact RF remote control and fully-adjustable steering-wheel cradle, so you can put safety first as you control your iPod. The remote control pops out of its cradle in a snap, allowing you to pass music control to your backseat drivers. And with TuneStik's four programmable presets, you're sure to have the best transmission at the push of a button.
Control at your fingertips The TuneStik isn't just an FM transmitter for the car--it also adds a strong RF remote control to your iPod--anywhere! With your TuneStik attached, simply connect your iPod to your home stereo system. Now you can use the compact TuneStik remote to control your iPod audio playback from across the room.
Plays well with others With the TuneStik's pass-through dock connector, you can continue to use your existing Auto Charger, iPod dock, or any other 30-pin based accessory while still having the benefits of a powerful FM transmitter and remote control at your fingertips.

Griffin Navigate Inline Remote Controller and FM Radio for iPhone and iPod Review

Griffin Navigate Inline Remote Controller and FM Radio for iPhone and iPod

My first "Navigate" lasted about 6 months. Griffin was nice enough to replace it when I let them know it just ceased operating. They sent me another one which I'm about to toss after 4 months. This one refuses to hold an FM channel and keeps switching to the music on my iPod. When will they design an iPod with an AM/FM radio built in?

Navigate maximizes convenient control of your iPod. It has control buttons your fingers can easily locate by touch, and it restores the tactile feedback of the iconic click wheel to touchscreen models. (Which comes in pretty handy when you're using it in a car and need to keep your eyes on the road.)About the size of a pack of matches, Navigate gives you a generous OLED information screen (for when you need to glance at it), on/off, play, volume and EQ controls, and an FM stereo radio. Tuck your iPod out of sight, but keep controls close at hand. Features stereo mini-jack for headphone connections with FM radio and volume control. iPhone users: Just plug Navigate into your dock connector, then connect your headset to the headphone jack of your iPhone to listen and talk.

Scosche Wireless RF Remote Control and FM Transmitter/Charger for iPod nano 1G Review

Scosche Wireless RF Remote Control and FM Transmitter/Charger for iPod nano 1G
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Scosche remote w/ "transmitter/charger" is falsely represented. Through hours on the phone & computer - many communications w/ Amazon reps and w/ the manufacturer(s), I've learned that Scosche long ago discontinued the "transmitter/charger". These "sets" being sent out contain transmitters w/ no charging function. (nothing on the package says "charge".) The solution is for Amazon to advertise what they actually have - i.e. change their sales material on the website to say "transmitter" and not include the charging function. (you'll still need a car charger or your ipod battery will run down). By the way, the sales material also says something like "compatible w/ all ipods" which it would not be even if it had the ability to charge: I've learned from apple that in determining if a charger can charge an ipod nano "generation 4", the charger has to connect to the nano through the 32 pin connector, not the earphone jack - the nano gen 4 cannot charge through the headphone jack.
Amazon phone representatives are not familiar w/ these products. It would be helpful to future customers if Amazon sales people had access to this information, instead of each customer having to go through this education process. (As I've now learned from a friend here in my own town who went through the exact same thing trying to order an automobile charger for her ipod nano Generation 4 through Amazon.) And, the english of 3 out of 4 of the Amazon phone reps was very difficult to understand (the 4th was a pleasure - so keep trying.)
Like the previous reviewer, the case did not fit my Ipod nano and I had to alter the clear plastic cover of the case w/ a grinder to get it to fit.
I need a remote to control the music when I teach dance - the 60GB ipod that I started with had a very short life, and supposedly this nano will last longer since it does not have a moving hard drive inside - therefore I need a remote that works w/ the nano. This is apparently one of the few (maybe only) RF remotes that will work w/ the configuration of the ports on the bottom of the nano Gen 4. The range on this remote is a little under 100' and not the 150' advertised, but now that I know that, I can adjust when I'm teaching - it seems adequate. The music has a significantly lower volume when connected through the remote than when it is connected directly to the sound system. (not an issue when connected to an amplifier, only an issue in the car.) And, the volume control on the remote does not work when the ipod is connected to the sound system through the remote (Ipod in remote case connected to a charging base station w/ sound system connected to the base and not the earphone jack of the ipod) I've not found a thin enough headphone jack w/ a 90 degree turn to hook the sound system up directly to the nano while its in the charging dock, but it seems like the volume control on the remote may work if I find the appropriate cable.

Finally, the unit's charger (integrated within the FM transmitter) plugs into your vehicle'scigarette lighter to keep your nano fully juiced as you drive. LCD FM TRANSMITTER/CAR CHARGER FOR APPLE iPOD nano 4G Review

LCD FM TRANSMITTER/CAR CHARGER FOR APPLE iPOD nano 4G
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I haven't had this very long yet, so not sure about how it will stand up to any abuse, but I love it so far. I'm using it on a Nano G4. I have had several other cheap FM transmitters for other MP3 players. Most of them really didn't have enough transmitter power to be really clear - you could hear random static, and radio stations trying to bleed through, during the quiet spots between songs. This unit seems to have plenty of power, even when running off of the Nano battery. There is a slight very high pitch tone present when using the charger unit, but it is not very noticeable - may very well be a characteristic of my Honda CR-V electrical system. Can't hear it when there is any music playing. It sounds great - clear, and with plenty of punch. My daughter has a unit from Monster that she uses on her full size iPod, and it works well, but it cost almost $90 a few years ago, and it is kind of bulky (though it has stood up well). This unit is smaller, lighter, and much cheaper, and seems to work just as well. The remote is handy, though a lot of the buttons are for the iPhone. It does make it easier to jump to the next song, or mute the unit, without having to handle the shuttle wheel on the Nano, especially when driving. I am getting another one for my Wife. Since her car cigarette lighter is broken at the moment, the ability to use it on the Nano battery (without the charger plugged in) will work well for her.

I have owned a few FM transmitters through the years. This is one of the poorer ones I have used. Signal is quite weak. Also the charging system does work, but your iPhone 3G will quickly point out to you that this is not a standard accessory. I'm looking for a new FM transmitter and charger now.
