(More customer reviews)When it comes to playing your iTunes music in a room away from the computer, products tend to take two main approaches. The first approach streams music from your computer to speakers of your choice. Apple Airport Express or the Sonos System are an example. The second approach involves docking iPods directly to an integrated set of speakers. The Octiv Air essentially takes the "dock" approach, but provides an aux port, so it also supports the "computer streaming" approach when paired with the above products. Thus, the Octiv Air operates in a very impressive, unique way!
Better yet, instead of the dock being physically attached to the speaker system, the dock is separate and wirelessly streams your iPod or "computer streamer"'s sound to the speaker, which can be placed elsewhere. For me, that feature makes the system brilliant!
My wife likes to listen to her iPod in the kitchen, but the problem with other iPod docking products is that our counter space is too valuable to fit a big speaker. Now, we can set the iPod in a small, out-of-the-way dock on the kitchen counter, but stream the music to the speaker, which sits elsewhere!
Another plus is that the wireless dock supports any sound output from your iPod. This means that in addition to the music on the iPod hard drive, you can also use the Octiv Air for Pandora internet radio and any other music supported by iPod Touch/iPhone applications!
As for the sound quality, it's excellent! It's much crisper than the docking products I've used in the past, and rivals any high-end docking system I've heard.
My only complaints are trivial. First, while the product description says the wall-mounting bracket is "optional", what it SHOULD say is that it's "sold separately". Second, while the system works with iPhone 3G, docking it will result in your iPhone giving you a message saying "this accessory is not designed to work with iPhone". You can just close the warning and everything will work as normal, but be prepared for the annoyance if you want to dock your phone.
All in all, I think Altec Lansing has thrown together a FANTASTIC product, that I wouldn't hesitate to recommend if you're in the market for a high-end iPod speaker system!

(More customer reviews)I recently acquired this charging station when I purchased a new iPod Classic 160 GB. (Replacing a 5 year old 60 GB Photo Classic that died after a rather short life, in my opinion.) This charging station fulfills the same function as the charging station that came with my old iPod (no charging station with the new one) plus provides a simple function remote for working with the music. Basically, you can turn the iPod on or off, adjust volume, or move forward or back on the current play list. All the functionality I need. I cannot comment about the range because my desk is barely 5 feet from my stereo. Seems to work fine over that range.
My concerns:
One: For some reason the charging base has a pilot light that seems essentially useless.
Two: The fit of the iPod into the base is not "tight" like the base was with my old iPod. I wonder if, over time, this will put a strain on the connector pins on the base and/or the iPod.
Three: Having previously used an AirClick remote with my old iPod, I note that this remote carries forward two annoying features.
First, it has a switch to enable/disable the remote. In my experience, this was a useless feature that more often was bumped in error and led to frustration thinking the remove was not working.
Second, if you need to replace the battery inside the remote (it lasted a long time for me with my older AirClick) the bottom of the remote is held on by three of the tiniest screws you can imagine. Ultimately i lost two of the screws on my old remote. Sometimes I would have to take the base off because the battery would shift out of position.
Overall, this product is pretty good. I did not really cross shop other products to see if there was something better because the price was reasonable and it met my needs. Really my biggest concern is about the way the 160 GB iPod Classic is not tightly held in the base.

They said they were NEW , when they arrived they werent even in a bag, or with a tag. They didnt appear to be NEW. To NO suprise neither of them worked. Its Too much trouble to try to return things so Im out nearly $50, and I had to buy NEW cords on E-bay (which worked great).

(More customer reviews)THE PRODUCT - I was looking for a middle of the road iPod speaker because I wasn't interested in paying $200 for a BOSE iPod speaker. I wanted something small, simple and reasonably priced. THIS IS IT! Don't expect BOSE quality sound, but it is more than adequate for a desktop speaker in an office or to make your 1st gen iPod touch a great alarm clock (which it has inside it, but no built in external speakers to make it useful) Also, this dock is a great way to charge the touch, which does not come with a wall charging adapter.
THE CUSTOMER SERVICE - The only glitch in my experience was that the speaker/dock did not come with a universal iPod touch adapter. Your iPod will still attach to the speaker and work fine, and for the most part sit on the dock solidly. But the adapter makes it much more solid. I e-mailed Satechi and asked for an adapter. They CALLED me back, that's right CALLED me back, and offered to send one out free of charge. THAT'S an A+ in my book.

(More customer reviews)I had high hopes for this product --- needed a way to put sound throughout my small house and functionality seemed great (the ability to use different modes in different rooms, ability to use remote with each of the speaker units to control the ipod, etc.) Unfortunately, it did not work as well as hoped.
The base and speakers had a hard time talking to each other, and they were only 50-60 ft apart and in a relatively unobstructed path. Had to move the base closer and align the speaker so that it was in a more direct visual view. Still, with people in the room it would fade in and out. Not sure if this is because I have wireless internet in the house, which the manual says might interfere, but who that would be looking for wireless speakers doesn't have wireless internet??
The sound quality is very good. Not quite as good as my Bose docking station, but I was pleasantly surprised. The other big downside for me with the sound, however, and the last straw that prompted me to return the product, is the volume level. The highest setting is not all that loud. Fine if you are in the same room... but sometimes I would crank up the volume on my Bose docking station and listen to the music in other rooms or outside ... can't really do this with the Sony.

Griffin Technology TuneFlex AUX for iPod and iPod nano Review

(More customer reviews)This review is for the new 2.0 version. It has the variable output control on the base, while the old version had a simple high-low switch. This is important because it allows for a precise adjustment of the output from the iPod.
What will the Tuneflex do for you? First, it is nice to have your iPod up in front where you can see and operate it. It provides for charging and the sound output comes from the bottom plug of the iPod, rather than the headphone output jack. This provides for better sound as the headphone output is designed for headphones only.
You do not want an fm transmitter. Those are horrid in all respects.
These features are of no use unless you have an accessible lighter (or power output) and an auxiliary input on the vehicle's sound system. These can be added by handy people or the local car stereo installer.
Some reviewers have complained that the Tuneflex is wobbly. The 2.0 is very solid, but the lighter plug itself is often loose. Mine is, but it still works ok and is not too annoying. I may go in and tighten it up or replace it with a sturdier output some time.
The Tuneflex fits tightly, so hold down the lighter when you pull out the unit. Lighters are not very strong.
Note that the product description informs you of which iPods fit. The Tuneflex comes with a variety of holders that snap on to the stalk and hold the selected iPod securely. If you keep your Tunflex installed, all you have to do is slide the iPod in and it is all connected.
Well, you ask, what about the iPhone? It is not on the supported products list. It so happens that the first generation iPhone will barely fit one of the adapters. Pretty tight, but you can do it. I doubt the new 3G phone will fit, but
When you do connect the phone, a dialogue box pops up to inform you that it is not a supported device, so do you want to continue. Push "yes" and all is well. It works perfectly.
Griffin, the maker of the Tuneflex, says Apple has not approved the device. Apple is famous for tightly controlling things and who knows what politics, licensing fees or what else may be involved here.
None of this applies if you use it as intended, with a supported iPod. You can keep your phone in your pocket and use it separately. On my car, the bluetooth works perfectly and turns the sound down on the auxiliary mode.
So, it works as it should, is handy and tidy, and the price is right. I recommend it if your vehicle has an auxiliary input and a well-placed lighter or power plug outlet.

(More customer reviews)The one big attraction for this item is that it has SO many helpful gadgets, even ones you may not even have known you wanted! I bought it for the wall charger and car charger but am loving every single thing it came with! Here's the list:
- a dock for charging/storing your iPod
- a wall charger so you don't have to turn your computer on, pull iTunes up, and turn off your 'puter's sleep mode simply to charge your iPod
- a car charger
- an earbud splitter (to plug in two sets of earbuds/headphones so more than one person can listen)
- a double-ended USB cable (a USB port at each end)
- an extra USB cable with the flat dock-connector port (the kind that comes with any non-shuffle iPod)
- an RCA cable for hooking up to a stereo
Let's start with the dock. It has a rubber bottom so it doesn't slide around and is somewhat weighted so there is no risk of tipping over when your iPod is sitting in it. It seems pretty solid, but it does allow my iPod (I have a 6G 80GB Classic) to wiggle a bit in it. So far it hasn't come away from the dock port enough to interfere with the charging but it's not 100% stable in the dock. The USB cable is also able to wiggle a bit in the port as well and is easy to pull out, but all in all, it works for me. If it's just sitting there and not being messed with, everything stays in place fine.
The wall charger: awesome. Connect the wall charger box and the charging dock using the double-ended USB cable, then connect the iPod to the dock using the USB/flat dock port cable - and voila! (It's easier than it sounds.) I love not having to fire up my laptop just to charge my 'Pod!!
Car charger: sweet. Works just like any car charger. Requires the USB/flat dock cable. Convenient. I keep mine in the glove box with my DS and cell phone chargers.
Earbud splitter: Super sweet!! How many times have you shared headphones (or someone else's earbud - yechh!) to listen in on one iPod together? Well, I have. This thing is awesome and I honestly never even thought that such a thing existed. I love it! Very solid construction on this piece.
The additional cables are a lifesaver. They are required for using all the items that come in this box and it's not a bad idea to have them as spares anyway, even if you don't use these extras often.
Overall, I am impressed with what was included and the quality is average if not better. It has everything I never knew I always wanted. :)

Every single character that could possibly be viewed on my clock screen was there. I sent it back to the manufacturer with one day left on the warranty. It took a month and a half, but I got a new one at my own shipping expense. I noticed that the new one had a weird and very faint high pitched ring to it, even when the radio was off. Other than that, it was fine for the next five months. Then the screen died again. I would recommend not buying this product.

(More customer reviews)I saw this for sale at a local store, so I thought I would do some digging for information. Unfortunately, there is almost zero. It doesn't say it anywhere online or on the box, but this will indeed charge your iPhone 3G. It's possible that they did not want to pay for licensing. Since it will charge the 3G, it should charge all of the new non-firewire iPods (Nano 5G, etc).
It's nice and compact, but certainly sturdy. Once you take a leaf through the instruction manual, it's very easy to use. Not one of those things I recommend to start pushing buttons feet-first, because you'll probably be woken up at 2:30am by accident.
What else can I say about it? It charges my iPhone, plays pretty well (a 5.1 system this isn't), has an aux-in for a Zune, etc, has dual-alarms with 3-4 different options each. If you're looking for a cheap replacement for your firewire-charging alarm clock, this is a good choice.

(More customer reviews)There are some things I really like about this clock, and some things that really annoy me.
First the annoying things:
1) The *#&% scroll wheels. MESSAGE TO ALL MANUFACTURERS: Just because Apple has a scroll wheel doesn't mean you have to as well. They are not the be all and end all of UI devices. They work for the iPod because you hold it in your hand and you can navigate with your thumb. For an alarm clock this is not the case and (at least for me) they tend to be clunky and difficult to use. I would have gotten a clock without them, but I couldn't find one in my price range that also had good reviews.
2) The Backlight. I actually saw this issue in another review and bought the clock anyway. The problem is that the backlight is either on or it's off. Though there are ostensibly three dimmer modes, they do absolutely nothing that I can tell. When it's on, it's brighter than your desk lamp, and when it's off you can't see the screen in the dark. I keep it off, but then if I want to know what time it is in the middle of the night, I have to reach over to the clock and hit the dimmer switch.
3)The alarm volume is the same as the music volume. This is annoying if I want to listen to music as I go to sleep because when I'm trying to sleep I want the music quiet, but unless I somehow turn up the volume in my sleep, the alarm will be just as quiet in the morning. Pretty poor design, there.
Things I like:
1) There's a power button. I was really stoked when I saw this because my old iPod clock had absolutely no way to turn off the iPod/Radio/Aux Jack short of hitting the sleep button until the sleep timer hit zero.
2) With the volume up the alarm is loud. Really loud. I don't know if my neighbors appreciate that as much as I do, but at least it wakes me up in the morning. Most of the time.
3) There's a nap function. Enough said.
4) It does what it's supposed to and does it reasonably well. The sound is good, and I can hear it from across my apartment if I want to listen to podcasts while I do housework.
Overall, I'm happy with this iPod dock alarm clock. It works with a minimum of fuss, and for it's price it's a pretty good piece of equipment.

(More customer reviews)I spent some time looking at all the options for mounting and playing an iPhone through my car speakers, as well as charging the iPhone. Nothing seemed to fit the bill perfectly. There are only a few options out there for mounts that charge and play music through your speakers--all of which are mounted awkwardly, directly to the cigarette lighter and down out of a safe area view to view the iPhone while driving. They all look flimsy and a little cheap.
Finally, after some searching I found this gem. I've never seen an iPhone mount that is literally mounted to a cassette adapter. It's mounted right in the middle of your radio, which is excellent as the iPhone is taking the place of the radio in the first place! It takes up less space than any other iPhone/iPod mount on the market. It really cleans up the clutter that most mounts create. It's easy to view without taking your eyes to far off the road. Tape adapter sound quality surpasses FM transmitters by a long shot. Sound quality is about a 9/10 (FM transmitters are about a 4/10). Really easy to mount and easy to view. It is a little bit wobbly where the mounting piece attaches to the cassette if you physically try to move it (which was a little bit annoying), but I corrected that very easily with a little bit of double-sided tape where the mount connects to the cassette to take up some of that extra space that allowed it to wobble. It was an easy fix to a problem that wasn't that major to begin with.
I had a little problem when I received the iDeck. The mounting bracket (there are 4 different ones included) I needed for the iPhone was missing from the package. I emailed Cyanics customer support to see if I could get this piece. They got back to me in just a few minutes with the tracking information on the piece I needed, telling me it was on its way. Cyanics customer support is second to none. I've emailed them a few times now and they have never taken more than 10 minutes to respond (imagine if every company was like that!).
The iDeck absolutely works with the iPhone, although the only way to use it as a handsfree unit (where you can hear the caller through the car speakers) is to use an extremely simple workaround that I discovered. The iDeck will charge the iPhone and play all the music, sounds, etc. through your car's speakers without any workaround. Cyanics told me I would not be able to use it as a handsfree calling device, though, because when you answer a call it switches to speakerphone and doesn't play the call through the car's speakers. You can get around this by connecting a 3.5mm cable from the iPhone's headphone jack into the jack on the iDeck labeled "AUX". It works very well. The person on the other end said I sounded loud and clear to them. If you have your car's volume turned up really loud, the caller will hear themselves echoing, but this shouldn't happen at normal volumes.
In conclusion, I'm really happy with this product. I'm extremely picky when it comes to this kind of stuff. I consider this the best iPhone car mount on the market. It's a shame it isn't advertised as an iPhone mount, because it works great.
