On a more positive note, it does hold the iPod in a convenient location, and does have a 'pass-thru' port that allows a charger to be connected. The price I paid was ridiculously low, so I can't possibly complain.

I finally gave up and turned on the radio. I have since returned it for a refund. I live in a somewhat rural area. Maybe it would work better in a city.

Kensington Car Charger Deluxe for iPod; iPhone 1G, 3G Review

(More customer reviews)Interesting that Kensington calls the "Deluxe." I don't think it deserves the name.
First, this is a mount and charger. No audio / speaker connections. You plug a separate wire directly into the iPod/iPhone. Not what I was hoping for in a Deluxe model - I want to plug in the iPhone and use the one plug for everything.
The mount: I tried it on a Toyota Highlander - it only works when the 12V connection is on the dash (it is for the Highlander). The arm is only a few inches long so will be limited on where it works. It wouldn't work when the 12V is somewhere below (like a Prius). It does hold the iPhone very well. EXCEPT that the mount rotates too easily on one of the axis. Press a button on the iPhone, rotate the iPhone. Not great for in the car. (I used a hose clamp to lock it down, then it worked OK.)
It does function with the iPhone 3G - meaning it does charge it.
BUT for my setup, it creates a audio feedback loop between the charger and the audio so a huge buzz when it is in the dock and charging. iPhone alone - no buzz, iPhone in dock - buzz. I'm returning this one - if it didn't have a buzz I would have kept it. It could just be the iPhone 3G and/or a weirdness with the Highlander.

Pros:
- Good sound quality
- Sleek and attractive looking
- Pretty easy to use
- It will override a station with a slight signal, such as my 87.9 FM which in NYC has some interference on it when the ipod is not playing.
Cons:
- Signal distance is very short. This thing tops out at a distance of like 1-2 feet max. I ended up putting it on top of my radio where it worked fine.
- My biggest beef is that it will not fit into my ipod with the case (Capdase silicone) still on. If it fit in with the case on, I would probably give it 4 stars.

(More customer reviews)I purchased this slightly skeptical and I should have gone with my instinct. This was a cheap piece of plastic that wasn't worth the wait or the few dollars I spent on it.
First of all -- the FM transmitter didn't do anything, except fuzz the few stations that it was trying to connect with. The hing on the adaptor was so loose that it kept falling forward, there was no way to tighten it because the "screw" was a piece of plastic that was so soft it stripped it.
Also the clamp that holds the ipod in was so loose that my Ipod kept falling out... I don't know how anyone could sell this.
Also -- found out this seller doesn't take returns, only exchanges.

When you plug in your iphone 2G, you get a warning saying that this is not an iphone compatible item and it will cause interference if you get a call while listening to your songs. Actual iphone items are insulated against this.
ALSO, i have not been able to successfully pair my iphone with this thing. it will show like it is paired, but will not actually put the call through if the iphone is docked.
I'm sure this would work if you DO NOT have an iphone and are trying to pair a regular phone and an ipod for the fm transmitter, but you CAN NOT use this as an FM Transmitter AND bluetooth for your iphone. it just is NOT happening.

You've got this adjustable, padded iPod holder, shiny blue light-up display, and super sweet remote. It seems really hi-tech and useful. Then you plug in your iPod and try actually listening to your music. Big mistake.
This product's novelty will wear off really fast when you start listening to your music and realize the quality is borderline unbearable. I highly, highly recommend against purchasing this product. If you want clear, quality reception when listening to your iPod, buy the Monster iCarPlay. It's cheaper in price, and the quality is much better. Sure, it won't hold your iPhone or give you a fancy remote to show off to your friends, but the quality difference is distinct and important. The 8-in-1 sounds worse than a bad radio station, no matter what station you put it on. The iCarPlay had multiple stations that sounded crystal clear- stations that when chosen on the 8-in-1 sounded like complete garbage.
I wasted $50 on this product, and was so convinced by its shiny, sleek looks that it was a quality item, I chucked the packaging and can't return it now. Don't make my mistake.
