I do live in eastern PA so maybe its just the location. I did have this same unit before with my Jeep Liberty and it didn't work at all. I have a Toyota Matrix now.

I use the usb port on the side to charge my cellphone while my ipod is plugged in! Very good signal strength in my cars. However if you have a 12v socket that is not very tight then it will spin and flip upside down. But other than that its a great piece of equipment and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again!

Griffin TuneFlex AUX Mount and Charger with SmartClick Remote for iPod and iPhone (Black) Review

(More customer reviews)My Griffin TuneFlex AUX with SmartClick replaces a Kensington Liquid AUX Deluxe unit, which my wife accidentally broke while driving my car. I think this sort of accident is much less likely with the Griffin.
The big disadvantage of the Kensington (and the cause of its ultimate demise) were the adjustable arms that clamped on the iPod/iPhone; while it allowed adapting to any model, the clamp and release mechanism were "temperamental". The ratchet mechanism was hard to adjust "just right", and if too tight would rattle loudly as the car moved. It needed to be re-adjusted frequently, as it worked loose gradually. The Griffin in contrast comes with a whole array of plastic "heads" designed to perfectly fit and support various models with no slack or vibration. The heads are unlabeled; you just need to try your iPod or iPhone in each one that vaguely looks like it might fit until you get the right one. If you switch often between various models you'd want to carry the appropriate adapters, and need to switch them out... and the next new model probably won't be covered. (Luckily, I rarely use anything but my iPhone 3G in the car, and it turns out that my daughter's 3rd gen iPod nano can fit the iPhone sleeve. This may however be an issue if, for example, I upgrade to a "next gen iPhone" when such a thing is released, but we'll have to wait and see.)
Like the Kensington, the Griffin has a wireless remote that can velcro onto the steering wheel. I thought this was silly on the Kensington, but found that it quickly became a necessity. The convenience of being able to play, pause, and skip tracks without moving my eyes or taking a hand off the wheel is great. The reliability of the Kensington remote was "inconsistent", however. The Griffin seems to work consistently, but has a very "firm" touch and doesn't always respond when buttons are pressed casually. I do like the button to manually activate the backlight, when it's gone out. The Griffin remote is detachable from a magnetic base, which I find pointless: I see no need to remove it, and several times it's been knocked off accidentally and I need to search for it on the floor.
The flexible neck is stiff and stable, but reasonably easily adjustable; it's longer than the Kensington's neck, and that makes the iPhone more visible and accessible. The AUX cable has jacks on both ends so it can be replaced (unlike the Kensington's). It's much longer than the Kensington's, which might be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your car. (Way more cord than I really need.)
Some glitch in the Kensington occasionally caused my iPhone 3G to complain that the charger wasn't compatible. It still played through the AUX, and charged, but the remote was apparently disabled. Sometimes removing and re-inserting would resolve the problem, and sometimes it wouldn't. I haven't (at least yet) seen that issue with the Griffin, which is a "plus".
Advantages: long stiff neck, easy to adjust; custom fit "heads" for iPod/iPhone models; wireless remote
Disadvantages: custom fit "heads" may mean carrying more than one, and might be a problem for new models down the road; heads aren't labeled so it can be tedious to find the right one; remote is too easily detachable

The biggest problem that I face with the transmitter is that it is highly prone to interference. Not to the interference of another FM station, but to something else which I am unable to figure out. But this happens very rarely and so we can live with it. Otherwise, the quality of sound is very good. It sticks to the FM frequency that we set and there is no need for you to set the frequency each and every time you turn it on which is really very good.
If you are planning to buy this product for the remote control feature, then just forget it. The remote never works properly. If you want to increase or decrease the volume, it would change the songs, and if you wanted to change the songs, it would change the frequency.
Over all, I would give 3 stars to this product forgetting the remote component of it.

The Transmitter has around 8 ft of transmitting range on direct site to the target stereo. The sound quality is pretty good up to max transmitting range at which point it drops rapidly.
The Transmitter goes to sleep around 1 minute after idle. The Transmitter works as a car charger even on sleep mode. However it works out of your iPhone's battery, so it does not need to be connected to the charger in order to work. The provide mini USB to USB cable can be detach from the car charger and plug into any USB Home Charger that you own.
On long travels it is a bit frustrating finding empty FM Frequencies to Tune into. It may be irrelevant to most of us but it may be something to consider for truck drivers and those people with long commutes.
Over all, I am pretty happy with my purchase.

(More customer reviews)I spent some time looking at all the options for mounting and playing an iPhone through my car speakers, as well as charging the iPhone. Nothing seemed to fit the bill perfectly. There are only a few options out there for mounts that charge and play music through your speakers--all of which are mounted awkwardly, directly to the cigarette lighter and down out of a safe area view to view the iPhone while driving. They all look flimsy and a little cheap.
Finally, after some searching I found this gem. I've never seen an iPhone mount that is literally mounted to a cassette adapter. It's mounted right in the middle of your radio, which is excellent as the iPhone is taking the place of the radio in the first place! It takes up less space than any other iPhone/iPod mount on the market. It really cleans up the clutter that most mounts create. It's easy to view without taking your eyes to far off the road. Tape adapter sound quality surpasses FM transmitters by a long shot. Sound quality is about a 9/10 (FM transmitters are about a 4/10). Really easy to mount and easy to view. It is a little bit wobbly where the mounting piece attaches to the cassette if you physically try to move it (which was a little bit annoying), but I corrected that very easily with a little bit of double-sided tape where the mount connects to the cassette to take up some of that extra space that allowed it to wobble. It was an easy fix to a problem that wasn't that major to begin with.
I had a little problem when I received the iDeck. The mounting bracket (there are 4 different ones included) I needed for the iPhone was missing from the package. I emailed Cyanics customer support to see if I could get this piece. They got back to me in just a few minutes with the tracking information on the piece I needed, telling me it was on its way. Cyanics customer support is second to none. I've emailed them a few times now and they have never taken more than 10 minutes to respond (imagine if every company was like that!).
The iDeck absolutely works with the iPhone, although the only way to use it as a handsfree unit (where you can hear the caller through the car speakers) is to use an extremely simple workaround that I discovered. The iDeck will charge the iPhone and play all the music, sounds, etc. through your car's speakers without any workaround. Cyanics told me I would not be able to use it as a handsfree calling device, though, because when you answer a call it switches to speakerphone and doesn't play the call through the car's speakers. You can get around this by connecting a 3.5mm cable from the iPhone's headphone jack into the jack on the iDeck labeled "AUX". It works very well. The person on the other end said I sounded loud and clear to them. If you have your car's volume turned up really loud, the caller will hear themselves echoing, but this shouldn't happen at normal volumes.
In conclusion, I'm really happy with this product. I'm extremely picky when it comes to this kind of stuff. I consider this the best iPhone car mount on the market. It's a shame it isn't advertised as an iPhone mount, because it works great.

(More customer reviews)I received the item yesterday and hurried to my car to use it. One piece of advice for anyone living in a densely populated metropolitan area: do not buy this equipment. It won't work. In my area, virtually all of the radio frequencies are taken up. The one station I could find, in order to BARELY hear the music, I had to hold the phone upright while driving and turn the volume all the way up. Furthermore, the part that attaches to the phone kept slipping out.
Very disappointed with this item and definitely do not recommend it.

(More customer reviews)After spending $100 on a Belkin ipod fm transmitter, (because I believe I get what I pay for), I have found this $10 transmitter is what I was really looking for. I can comfortabley place my ipod in my cup holder while it is hooked up to this transmitter. I have an hour commute to work and home everyday and was looking for a transmitter that will continuously play no matter how many potholes there are. The Belkin stopped playing almost everytime I hit a bump and sometimes I could not get the music to start again while I was driving. This transmitter keeps my ipod playing no matter how many bumps there are on the road. I also find no difference in the sound quality between the more expensive transmitter and this transmitter. I have only had my transmitter a short time but feel I have gotten more than $10 worth out of it already. So, the lesson I have learned - at least when it comes to ipod fm transmitters - more expensive isn't always best.
