Scosche RF Remote Control for iPod classic 5G, 5.5G (Black) Review

Scosche RF Remote Control for iPod classic 5G, 5.5G (Black)
Average Reviews:

I purchased this remote for my Ipod Video (30GB). When I first took it out of the box, I was very happy, its color is the same as my iPod (black) and it also has the same width.
The unit fits OK with the iPod and the remote control is small and cool, but I found some flaws:
1. The unit easily disconnects if you maneuver the iPod in the car, for example, and I don't mean a drastic movement.
2. The remote control, it says up to 150ft.... yeah right, that is NOT true, even within the car (I have a small car) if you don't point the remote directly to the unit, it won't work. It also is kind of slow when you push the button to change a song and when the iPod actually change it.
The reason I rate this with 2 stars is because the unit, when it works, takes away that uncomfortable task to change the song by touching the iPod itself.

I'm using kJames on my Mac to convert mp3/cdg files to Quicktime mp4 files. With that and a video iPod, I get a true karaoke experience and the iKaraoke works great. In my experience, vocal cancelling never really works so I expected nothing more from this. However with true karaoke files, I think you'll be pleased. We used the iKaraoke on a car trip today, and it was a blast. I only wish there were built-in mic level controls on the microphone.

THE PRODUCT - I was looking for a middle of the road iPod speaker because I wasn't interested in paying $200 for a BOSE iPod speaker. I wanted something small, simple and reasonably priced. THIS IS IT! Don't expect BOSE quality sound, but it is more than adequate for a desktop speaker in an office or to make your 1st gen iPod touch a great alarm clock (which it has inside it, but no built in external speakers to make it useful) Also, this dock is a great way to charge the touch, which does not come with a wall charging adapter.
THE CUSTOMER SERVICE - The only glitch in my experience was that the speaker/dock did not come with a universal iPod touch adapter. Your iPod will still attach to the speaker and work fine, and for the most part sit on the dock solidly. But the adapter makes it much more solid. I e-mailed Satechi and asked for an adapter. They CALLED me back, that's right CALLED me back, and offered to send one out free of charge. THAT'S an A+ in my book.

Although there are more expensive options, if you're just looking for something to keep your iPod from sliding all over in the car, the iSqueez is a great option.
I use this with the Monster iCarPlay FM Transmitter/Charger, which uses the dock connector. I can't get my iPod mini to fit all the way down in where it should because of this, but it still fits in there well enough to stay in place.
I find that it holds the iPod at a great angle for viewing the screen from where you're sitting (though I'd recommend putting the passenger in charge of finding music).

Your cup holder is a great place for your iPod on the road, but it can still slide around, fall out, and even be scratched. And trying to use a charging cable really complicates things. Enter the iSqueez. The iSqueez holds your iPod or iPod mini at an easy-to-see angle. The material won't scratch the iPod's surface, and while we haven't rolled any cars, we know that your iPod isn't going to fall out. The iSqueez also leaves room on the inside for a docking cable, and provides a place for the cable to run without disturbing your iPod's newfound peace. The Griffin iSqueez is the best seat in the car for your iPod or iPod mini. Even your wallet will thank you.

XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G (Black) Review

XtremeMac Airplay Boost FM Transmitter for iPod nano 2G (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had tried several other FM transmitters for my iPod Nano 2G but all failed to pass muster. Be it ease of use, excessive static or simply poor construction they all suffered from deficiencies that rendered them unusable. With the AirPlay Boost however I have been very satisfied with its performance. The default frequency (87.9 MHz) was fine for my area (Tampa, a big but sprawling metropolitan area). My primary use will be in my car and for that scenario it worked well. There was static discernible but I would go so far as to say that it was less than most radio stations. The telescoping antenna was a little flimsier than expected but not so much so that I am concerned about its durability. I am glad it is telescoping as my iPod would not fit in its protective case otherwise. The inclusion of a pass through charging connector at the bottom of the transmitter is a nice feature. The case design of the transmitter blends well with the case of the iPod Nano 2G. I would recommend this product to others.

DLO Tune Stick Review

This unit is cleverly designed, and functions adequately...some of the time. Interference from power lines and radio signal relays regularly disrupt "broadcasts" from one's iPod to the FM station selected. As one travels, other stations can routinely be heard, replacing the programming on one's iPod. It's pretty annoying, and frequently renders the listening experience genuinely unpleasant.

TuneStik combines a wireless FM transmitter with a powerful RF remote control for iPod playback and control in the car, at home--anywhere there's an FM radio. What sets TuneStik apart from the pack of existing FM transmitters is the included remote control plus an integrated pass-through dock connector, which gives you the freedom to combine TuneStik with virtually any iPod accessory--adding an RF remote and an FM transmitter to nearly all your iPod gear.

Keep your hands on the wheel The TuneStik includes a compact RF remote control and fully-adjustable steering-wheel cradle, so you can put safety first as you control your iPod. The remote control pops out of its cradle in a snap, allowing you to pass music control to your backseat drivers. And with TuneStik's four programmable presets, you're sure to have the best transmission at the push of a button.
Control at your fingertips The TuneStik isn't just an FM transmitter for the car--it also adds a strong RF remote control to your iPod--anywhere! Kensington 33384 QuickSeek FM Transmitter/Car Charger for iPod Review

Kensington 33384 QuickSeek FM Transmitter/Car Charger for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is my second Kensington. Althought this model is "newer" than the other model I own (Kensington 33199 Digital FM Transmitter and Auto Charger for iPod (Black), if you compare them side by side, this newer model will make you go a little crazy - it really pales in comparison in terms of ease of use (I'm using it with a 30GB Ipod 5.5 Video).
The main flaw with this transmitter is that it just plain needs a lot of "tweaking" to get it to work. This means every time you power up your car and want to drive down the road while listening to your Ipod. Here's a literal comparison: OLDER MODEL (33199) - start car, wait 2 seconds for transmitter to kick in and override the FM frequency playing, hit "play" on the Ipod. THIS MODEL - start car, wait 6 seconds and I'm still hearing static as transmitter hasn't started operation, reach over and pick up Ipod, press buttens to cycle through the pre-saved frequencies to get to my last used frequency, still hear static, press the transmitter unit harder into the Ipod and press the cable into the unit itself to more firmly seat it, 2 seconds later the static goes away as the transmitter is now transmitting - this is 20 seconds after starting car, now I hit play and the Ipod starts working but the screen doesn't show what its playing, it just shows the main menu (explained below). If you weren't familiar with just how simple these things should be (model 33199), you might actually find this thing acceptable because it does a fair job as an actual transmitter, otherwise you would know that this current model is pretty much trash.
Also, the blocky interface plugs into the docking section, which makes the Ipod harder to handle and makes the whole unit feel more fragile (that is, it's easy to torque the block, which is only connected with a docking interface, which makes me worried about damaging either the transmitter or the Ipod at the connection point).
Worse, the device "controls" the Ipod, using the Ipod screen to read off frequencies. This control doesn't always "release" the Ipod to allow it to go back to the audio control screen, which means that if you want to fast forward or otherwise interact with the song, then you'll have to go through the menus and find the exact song / podcast you are currently listening to and click on it again to bring up the right screen (I kid you not).
Finally, as mentioned above, the last-used frequency doesn't always activate when the unit is powered off then back on, you have to manually switch back to it, amazingly ridiculous. To boot, the "clear frequency scanner" is really gimmicky, providing only marginally good frequency choices, ones that prove poor after driving a little further down the road.
None of these problems with the other unit I mentioned. My recommendation is that you STAY AWAY from this model and go with the Model 33199, much easier to use, flawless execution and a fairly strong transmitter.

Spend more time enjoying your favorite iPod tunes and less time searching for a high-quality audio signal with the Kensington QuickSeek FM transmitter/car charger. Like other FM transmitters, the unit broadcasts your iPod's music through your vehicle's stereo speakers, so you can groove to your full digital music collection without buying an expensive iPod-compatible car stereo. But unlike with competing models, you don't have to fiddle with the transmitter for several minutes to find a static-free station. Instead, the unit's QuickSeek technology locates the best FM signal in mere seconds, making tuning easier than ever. All you have to do is connect the transmitter to your iPod's dock connector, plug the car charger into your vehicle's 12-volt power outlet, and you're set.
The QuickSeek boasts Kensington's ClearFM technology, which delivers richer lows, crisper highs, and superior stereo separation with a "concert hall" effect--all through your regular stereo speakers. The ClearFM circuitry also includes the company's patented filtering technology, which results in the lowest harmonic distortion and signal-to-noise ratios of any FM transmitter on the market today--up to three times clearer than Kensington's competitors. Handiest of all, the detachable car charger isn't for iPods only, as it also works with other USB-powered devices, such as mobile or smartphones, PDAs, and more.
Other details include three programmable preset buttons for storing FM stations, an ultra-bright display, and a detachable spacer to ensure a custom fit with iPod models in a case. The QuickSeek FM transmitter is backed by a two-year warranty.

Griffin Technology 4026-LCDT iTrip LCD FM Transmitter for iPod Review

Griffin Technology 4026-LCDT iTrip LCD FM Transmitter for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The original Griffin iTrip became one of the best selling iPod accessories. People love their iPods, and the ability to take the music on the road, in their car, is a desired feature.
However, many of today's automobiles do not include a stereo with line-in, and cassette players are rarely found in cars today, which eliminates the ability to use a cassette adapter. What does this leave? A FM transmitter.
The original iTrip offered good performance, for a FM transmitter. That is the key, for a FM transmitter. FM transmitters will not sound like a CD, cassette, and in some cases it won't even sound as good as a strong FM radio station, in your area. However, many times, the iTrip does a satisfactory job. It works even better, if you're in a rural area, where there is a wide selection of empty FM frequencies.
Improvements over original iTrip
The new iTrip features an LCD, with the ability to change the FM frequency broadcasted to, directly on the iTrip. Previously, you had to navigate to the iTrip stations on your iPod, select a frequency, and press the pause button at just the right moment. That inconvenience is gone with the new iTrip with LCD. Simply twist to your desired station, and you're done.
More Broadcast Modes - You now have the ability to transmit in stereo, or mono sound. Stereo sound will be the highest quality, in good situations. However, if you find lots of static and interference, switch to the mono-sound mode. This allows a stronger signal, which may eliminate the static, unfortunately you lose the depth of stereo sound, but if you're listening to a podcast monaural sound is fine.
Better Battery Life - The new iTrip seems to drain significantly less battery life, than the original iTrip. Sure, it will still cut your iPod's battery life by several hours, but it is less dramatic than the original.
Overall, Griffin has improved upon perhaps their most popular iPod accessory, and they improved it in a big way. The ease to change the frequency you broadcast to is fantastic, and the improvements in performance and battery life are appreciated too. The Griffin iTrip with LCD FM Transmitter will not sound like CD audio, but it is a great way to listen to the thousands of songs on your iPod, in your car. Furthermore, the improvements to this newest model will make you find the experience of using a FM transmitter a little more bearable.

Griffin 9781-TRP30BK iTrip FM Transmitter with Dock Connector for iPod (Black) Review

Griffin 9781-TRP30BK iTrip FM Transmitter with Dock Connector for iPod (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
First, and foremost, we are talking about FM transmitters. Therefore, nothing will sound like CD sound or direct cable connections when it comes to music quality. You will lose some highs, and you will lose some lows, and you will have nowhere near great quality. That being said, sometimes there are no alternatives, and some transmitters can get the job done. In addition, I have owned and tested all of the following transmitters, to which I will review for you now to save you the time and money. A note: I have 2 vehicles, a SUV and a Saturn.
First up: Belkin Tunebase
I bought this after my Roadtrip base was stolen with my iPod, and I thought I would try an alternative. I liked the flexible connector in my SUV to allow reaching of all controls. However, it was disastrous in my Saturn, only preferring 1 position - lying down. It is a pain to control the iPod when driving in either vehicle, as the flexible arm gave too much in order to advance unwanted songs or control the iPod in general. Although a wider range of highs and lows was evident, the strength of output of this device is way too low; easily outcompted by either of the following transmitters. In the SUV, it is very good at broadcasting and being received by the radio. However, in the Saturn, it was an absolute disaster. I am transmitting on a completely free channel, and in my Saturn I got feedback from the background radio hiss! I even had the hiss increase in tune with the windshield wipers! How awful. This is not a bad transmitter in a larger vehicle, like my SUV, but in a small vehicle, you don't want to risk it. Finally, you can't disconnect the transmitter like the Griffin items. So, it's use in your car, or don't use at all. Although you rarely need to use it outside of your car, the other two below are the same price or cheaper, so you're already paying for it. Avoid this item.
Next - Griffin Roadtrip
Although this comes with an extension, the fixed location of the holder interferes with many of the car controls, even with the extension. However, the transmission is much better and can even be picked up in nearby cars at clear enough reception. I again had trouble making turns in the Saturn, as the roadtrip does slip around; but not nearly as bad as the Belkin. The transmission is good, but not great; as you do need to find a completely clean frequency in order to get a good reception. Finally, controlling the iPod is easy, as the adapter is a sturdy adapter and holds the iPod quite well. It got the job done in both cars, but didn't exactly knock my socks off.
Finally - Griffin iTrip
The best of the bunch. I doubt the transmission is greater than the griffin Roadtrip; based on the fact it runs off of the iPod, but it doesn't matter. You can move your iPod into position to be right under your antenna and get fantastic reception. In addition, because it doesn't need to be connected to the lighter, there is no interferce with the controls of the car and the iPod is easy to control. Finally, purchase this with the Powerjolt and you've spent the same as either of the above and can charge your iPod at the same time; except with a cable to keep the iPod clear of auto controls. I was expecting very little from this tiny device, but I am quite pleased. The only drawback is that, since there is no holder, there really is no secure place to put your iPod; as it will slide all over the dash. Putting it near the controls of the car (like in the center compartment area) obviously takes away its advantage over the Roadtrip. However, some velcro backing to it or sticky tape should afix it to the dash temporarily and you can remove it when you leave the car. But then you have tape on the back of your iPod....so..... Well, it still is the best choice, as the transmission is clearest because you can get it close to your antenna; and it is the only transmitter that worked well in my Saturn. In the SUV, all worked well.

The Griffin Technology 9781-TRP30BK iTrip FM Transmitter with LCD and Dock Connector for iPod lets you avoid the hassle of bad reception and bad music on your car's radio by transmitting your iPod's music directly to your FM radio. iTrip features a clear, backlit LCD screen that makes setting the digital tuner easy and intuitive. A switch on iTrip's side controls the broadcast frequency, but with iTrip's memory of broadcast settings, you might find yourself not changing the frequency often. XtremeMac IPU-IFM-10 InCharge FM Wireless Transmitter for iPod - Black Review

XtremeMac IPU-IFM-10 InCharge FM Wireless Transmitter for iPod - Black
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Review from iLounge. This is the review I used to qualify this purchase. I had written a manual review prior to this but it seems Amazon 'lost' my review. So, I'm reviewing it again the lazy way. I hope you find it informative. I was originally considering the Monster or the Belkin brand prior to this purchase. Now, I'm glad I went with this purchase instead.
Surprises -- particularly good ones -- are very rare in FM transmitters these days, as the Federal Communications Commission's crackdown on overpowered radio broadcasting devices has compelled many companies to broadcast just within the U.S. government's legal limitations. Over the past year, we've become familiar enough with those limitations that it seems obvious when a device is unhappily struggling to match them or blowing right past the marks, hoping not to get caught. Though we might be wrong, XtremeMac's combination FM transmitter and car charger InCharge FM ($70) seems to be in the latter category: two sample units we tested outperformed recent FCC compliant transmitters we've tested by a fair margin.
Like the earlier InCharge Auto, InCharge FM appears to have been designed to physically match the iPhone, using chrome and black plastic in an attractive, minimalist combination for each of its key parts. First, there's a car charging bulb with a subtle blue light to indicate that it's receiving power, and second, there's a cabled FM transmitter that connects to an iPod with a Dock Connector plug at one end, and a case-compatible USB plug for charging at the other. InCharge FM doesn't run off of the iPod's battery, and so depends on the cabled transmitter to be connected to the charging bulb, or a USB-enabled computer or wall charger, for power.
This latter point deserves a little extra attention. Virtually every one of the "in-car" FM transmitters we've tested over the past few years is "only in-car," with the manufacturer assuming--probably correctly--that you're only interested in hearing your iPod's audio through a radio when you're driving. Because you can pull the car charger off and connect InCharge FM to any powered USB port or wall charger, this one can be used indoors too, which will be a bonus for people who want to charge and hear their iPods through home radios without using a dock or wires. Our one and only issue with XtremeMac's connectors was a slightly loose right lock on our second review unit's Dock Connector, which didn't interfere with the unit's performance.
XtremeMac's transmitter looks like a pill-shaped miniature iPhone, with buttons on its face and sides, plus a blue LED screen where the iPhone's touchscreen would be. A play/pause/next track button for iPod touch and a stereo/mono toggle switch are accessible on one side of the transmitter, while the other side has two preset buttons, and the face has manual tuning buttons for the transmitter. The screen's only for numbers, and keeps at least the bright blue decimal dot on display whenever power's running through the transmitter, as well as matching digits whenever an iPod or iPhone is connected. The currently shipping version of InCharge FM is only iPod-compatible, bringing up the iPhone's nag screen, but a nagless version is planned for near future release as well. Nag aside, both of the review units we tested worked extremely well with the iPhone.
In fact, the units worked extremely well with anything we connected. XtremeMac says that the InCharge FMs use a licensed FM transmission technology called Quintic PureFM that promises "a consistently clean signal and excellent dynamic range," and though the units we tested weren't immune to the subtle static levels that persist in all FM transmitters, they did in fact sound great--especially when tuned to everclear station 87.9FM. We preferred the dynamic sound of the InCharge FM to what we heard from Belkin's TuneCast Auto, as well as Griffin's most recent iTrip Auto--on good or bad stations, XtremeMac's transmitter sounded clearer.
To quantify this a bit more, on an empty FM station such as 87.9FM, InCharge FM sounded almost completely clear, which wasn't a shock, but it also had the ability to basically flood out an existing station that was weak to moderate on the dial, and didn't suffer as much from the transmitter's location in our test vehicle as the others. We were also able to get a clear signal from five feet away from the antenna indoors. While these are positive performance characteristics that any end user would appreciate, they're also hints that the transmitter is like a track runner on steroids, capable of outperforming its rivals but also leaving us wondering how long it would remain in competition.
Overall, we can't help but be impressed by the overall performance and value the current version of InCharge FM brings to the table. Bucking past XtremeMac pricing trends, it sells for $10 less than its key competitors, but still manages to outperform them on sound, and look great in the process. Its ability to work indoors, using a USB charger or computer for power, also adds value for some users. From a features standpoint, all it's conspicuously missing is Belkin's ClearScan or Griffin's SmartScan auto-tuning feature, and then, its inclusion of near-universally-empty 87.9FM on the dial all but eliminates the need for tuning.

I was told over the phone that this was a docking station for my IPOD.
However, it does not charge your IPOD and the speakers are terrible.
It is worthless to me. The FM receiver also does not work well and it has no charger or input for the car.

For my application, this cable fit the bill. Compared to other so called "Shielded Cables", this one is tops. This cable is routed around and thru AC lines and my UPS backup device and does NOT pick up and noise. This item gets two thumbs up in my book.
