Then the transmission to the radio is very weak -- I really expected much better reception considering the short distance involved. I was able to find two or three frequencies where it would work, but it seemed like the resulting audio was poor quality.

(More customer reviews)July 2006. After testing the Jwin, Griffen 30BK, Edge DiskGO, and the Kensington Pico, and the MITO, the MITO wins hands down. The JWIN is not plug and play and presented quite a bit of static, the Griffin could not muster the volume, as was the case with the Kensington, and the Edge was just a P.O.S., with no stereo transmission, and a battery door that would not close. My test was specifically for transmission to a Panasonic Boom box, used while on vacation. In both N.J. and N.C., the MITO performed well, with little static, and plenty of volume for those late night jam sessions after the kids and wives were asleep. Go with the MITO, you won't be sorry.

(More customer reviews)The biggest complaint most people have for any FM transmitter is either "noise" (interference from other radio stations, etc.) and the limits on the channels you can choose.
If you live in a large metropolitan area like I do, you need to have the ability to use any channels that you can. The Audiobug is one of the few (if not the only) FM transmitter that allows ANY station to be programmed. Thus, if you travel a lot in a variety of differenct locales(again, like I do), the Audiobug makes it is easy to switch channels to get the most noise-free channel possible.
Easy to use. I recommend a high FM channel frequency if possible (it appears that the higher the FM station on the dial, the less radio interference from other sources).
You will still get some popping and crackling at some times regardless. This is manageable if you utilize your radio volume control in conjunction with your CD or MP3 player volume control to adjust the device.
Not as clear as a regular CD, but it is better than nothing when you don't have a CD player installed in your car or want to play your MP3 files.
I highly recommend this item. Although I have not compared it with other FM transmitters, based on my research prior to purchasing it, it is probably the best choice out there, especially when you consider that it is not restricted to pre-set channels.

(More customer reviews)I'm going to keep this review pretty simple: It works great, doesn't suck battery life up too fast and the addition of a car adapter was an excellent idea.
The bad is that if you plan on using it in the New Jersey area you're not going to get very good results in the car. The reception will constantly go in and out between the player and the radio station. Trying to find a decent "empty" channel is pretty much not going to happen, and it tends to have a really big problem handling bass. I used this with my ipod 4th gen with click wheel, so changing the ipod bass control might help this. Moving/bumping/rattling the transmitter in any way also messed with the signal.
Overall I felt the Airplay works the best; but this one has a bigger digital display and several memory options.
All in all, buy it and try it. Just keep the receipt handy and make sure you ask about the return policy.

(More customer reviews)I got this to go with my Dell DJ. Since I go between two cars for my commute, I wanted something that wasn't "nailed down". This seemed to fit the bill. And it does, but I find myself constantly adjusting the tuner to clean up the signal while driving. I start off and the signal is strong, but 10 miles down the road it starts to fade and needs tuning. I do live in the Baltimore Washington area, so there are a lot of radio stations chewing up the air waves. I think the battery power source limits this items broadcast strength. And when you are near a city, regular FM is going to overpower battery-powered FM everytime. Good item as long as you are in a rural area.

iLuv I701 Digital FM Radio Transmitter (White) Review

(More customer reviews)iLuv is relatively small and thin. Easy to carry around, will fit almost anywhere. Uses standard 3.5mm stereo audio connector. It is in no way iPod specific. I guess it has "i" in the name because every cool device these days has "i" in the name. You can use iLuv with anything. Laptops, MP3 players, Walkmans, CD players, anything standard. And with iPod too. Of course, if your device has non-standard connector (most mobile phones for example) you are out of luck.
It uses AAA batteries, which is not really a good thing. However, given that device is too thin for AA batteries, I'm not going to hold it against it. BTW, may I suggest rechargeables to everybody who bitches about price of AAA batteries. There is a 3V connector on it, so you don't need batteries if you have 12V to 3V adapter for car. I just got iLuv today, so can't really comment on battery life. It's been turned on for the whole afternoon with used batteries (that I pulled out of my old FM transmitter), and it still works.
It covers the full FM frequency range in 0.1 MHz increments. You can set it to virtually any unused FM slot. As far as I can tell, it stays at the dialed frequency and doesn't "pollute" reception of nearby stations (translated, your neighbors will not hate you). However, the range is very limited. You probably want to keep it no more than 10 feet or so from the antenna of your radio. If you are looking into buying it for use in car, this is not a problem. Tested. I placed it at the worst position in car, furthers away from antenna, and the sound quality was still good. If you want to transmit to the room on the other end of a house, you'll be very disappointed. It simply doesn't have enough juice for that.
There's some audible white noise when there's no input signal, but not any worse than some other devices I had in my hands. Don't expect miracles from something in this price range. If you'll be using it in a car (use most folks are buying this devices for), don't worry about it at all. Even if you have very quiet car, you won't notice this at all. On the other hand, if you are audio perfectionist, you'll probably have to spend much more money for something better.
Conclusion. iLuv is no worse then what I read in reviews for most other FM transmitters. It is way better then my old Radio Shack branded one.

There are about 100 components to solder. You can also buy it pre-assembled for an extra $75USD.
It takes about an hour or so to build. But beginners can take up to six hours.
Checking, adjusting, testing and making an antenna can take all day.
The sound quality is great. By that I mean it's comparable to a tape player or a record player.
The stereo separation is also great. I checked left, I checked right.
I didn't install the built-in telescoping antenna.
I connected an external antenna.
You can also just plug in a five foot 22-gauge sold copper wire.
I also noticed that the manual fails to tell you to install the built-in antenna.
With a dipole antenna or better and placing it outside a window, the transmitted signal can go about a mile if unobstructed.
But now I'll have to lower that signal strength before the FCC comes and yanks out my antenna.-----------------------

(More customer reviews)I've purchased three various FM transmitters varying from $[...] dollars and they all suck. When you FINALLY find a strong signal, it will quickly go away. I travel between New Orleans and New York and EZ-Cube works great in both cities.
Yes, it doesn't charge your media player, but it does come with a charger for the device itself which means it doesn't suck you iphone/ipod's energy.
Yes, it doesn't have a mounting system, but the cube is so freakin' small you plug it in the headphone jack and rest it in a cup holder or in any other little nook around you.
The most important aspect of this device aside from these two insanely minor issues is that it works great, I mean really great. Sure there will be moments where you'll hear some minor static, but compared to EVERYTHING else out there, it's night and day. And for $[...] bucks it's a steal.
Seriously, if an FM transmitter is your only option. BUY THIS ONE. What I don't understand is why this device can't be found in any retail store in the U.S.? At least not where I live, or why it's not sold on Amazon, instead it's sold through a secondary company. Come on guys you are seriously missing out in this market.
One last thing....buy it-it's worth every penny, I can listen to Wilco's spacious music without it being disrupted by a continuous hiss.

(More customer reviews)I bought this for about $20, wanting a cheap connection from my portable mp3 CD player to my car CD player, which can't play mp3s. I wish I hadn't. It's an interesting little gadget, but besides the novelty value, the reception - or rather, FM connection - is not very good. It sounds like AM radio and you have to sometimes switch the frequency on the transmitter to get better reception from your external device (in my case, my portable mp3 CD player) even if the car radio is set to one frequency.
Overall, the experience is not very satisfactory and definitely not a pleasure.
