(More customer reviews)Wow, finally we have found something to work to dock the Ipod in the minivan. We had a Belkin dock for a couple years...the one that plugs into the A/C and has the arm that extends out and moves where you want it. We just always had so much trouble with it staying put. We have an Ipod Classic 160GB, and it is the heaviest model, and the dock would always slip because we could never get it to be tight enough in the A/C plug. It was SO FRUSTRATING! This product is great. It is not a power supply and it does not have an FM transmitter. We use a tape deck to play the Ipod through, so that we get the best sound, so we don't need the FM transmitter. And, we have an A/C plug for the Ipod so we just leave it plugged in while we drive so the Ipod doesn't run down the battery. ANYWAY, this Kensington "arm" dock is so great. It turns every which way so that you can mount it anywhere. We have a van that has a console that sticks out so we actually mounted it on the side of the console, so that the Ipod now sits right next to the radio and the cords can all reach. I really recommend this for anyone who does not need the FM transmitter or A/C connector dock. VERY STURDY, VERY EASY TO INSTALL, VERY FLEXIBLE FOR USE, GREAT DESIGN!!
June 2009 update:
We still love this but wanted to update and say that in the summer, the adhesive just doesn't stick so well...so about every time we get in the van we have to re-stick it. It doesn't ever fall when we are in the car, after we re-stick it and we have the AC going...but just when not in use. So at least it is not putting our Ipod in danger of falling. We still love it and would recommend it.

I bought the product to find out that it only supports the iPhone 2G and 3G (not the 3Gs). In addition, it only supports a bare bones iPhone with no case as the holder is fixed and can not be adjusted. So, if you have a protective cover over your iPhone, forget about this product. I contacted Justpal and after going back and forth, they agreed that I will return the product for a full refund. I sent the product back and since then, they disappeared. They do not return emails and after weeks and weeks, did not yet refund me. Don't buy from them!!!

(More customer reviews)Wow. this thing is the worst product ever from Griffin. I own the original Windowseat and love it. It is very sturdy and rugged. The only problem with the original version is that it is not compatible with the iPhone 4. On Griffin's website, it says that they have no intention of creating an adaptor for the iPhone 4, so I had to bite the bullet and buy a new version that is compatible. I thought I was buying into the Griffin reputation and the original versions durability. Boy was I wrong. This thing is so flimsy that it wags side to side 2 whole inches if you use the included extension arm. On most cars, if you want to attach it to the windshield, you will need to use the extension arm. The ball socket actually broke on me while I was assembling it. All I have to say is that if you plan to buy it, set it and forget it. Because if you need to move it, it will break eventually. The box it came in is worth more than this joke of a product.
On the other hand, the ball joint is the exact same size as the original WindowSeat, so I have trashed the rest of it and will go back to the original mount and use the new appliance holder... until it breaks.
Come on Griffin!!! Make an adaptor or make something that works. This product is a joke! So I guess the joke is on me.

(More customer reviews)This product works exactly as advertised. In fact, based on what I had read in the other reviews I would actually say that it works better than advertised. The suction cup works so well that the only thing I can figure is that the person that had problems with it did not understand how it worked. It is not the standard type of suction cup where you simply press it against the windshield and hope it holds. This suction cup works by placing it against the windshield and then turning the knob counterclockwise in order to pull the center portion away from the windshield. As it does this it creates a vacuum seal that so tight that you are more likely to dislodge the windshield than you are to remove this device from it.
The iPhone fits perfectly into the holder and the aux cable is nice and thin. I actually used the phone in this setup when I wanted to have a conference call and the other person's voice coming out of the car stereo worked great for that purpose.
The only caveat I would list is that if your car has a long sloping windshield you may find the extension not quite long enough to bring the phone within reach. You may be able to compensate for this by mounting it up higher. I drive a Jeep Wrangler and it has a pretty vertical windshield so I don't have this problem.

(More customer reviews)My Griffin TuneFlex AUX with SmartClick replaces a Kensington Liquid AUX Deluxe unit, which my wife accidentally broke while driving my car. I think this sort of accident is much less likely with the Griffin.
The big disadvantage of the Kensington (and the cause of its ultimate demise) were the adjustable arms that clamped on the iPod/iPhone; while it allowed adapting to any model, the clamp and release mechanism were "temperamental". The ratchet mechanism was hard to adjust "just right", and if too tight would rattle loudly as the car moved. It needed to be re-adjusted frequently, as it worked loose gradually. The Griffin in contrast comes with a whole array of plastic "heads" designed to perfectly fit and support various models with no slack or vibration. The heads are unlabeled; you just need to try your iPod or iPhone in each one that vaguely looks like it might fit until you get the right one. If you switch often between various models you'd want to carry the appropriate adapters, and need to switch them out... and the next new model probably won't be covered. (Luckily, I rarely use anything but my iPhone 3G in the car, and it turns out that my daughter's 3rd gen iPod nano can fit the iPhone sleeve. This may however be an issue if, for example, I upgrade to a "next gen iPhone" when such a thing is released, but we'll have to wait and see.)
Like the Kensington, the Griffin has a wireless remote that can velcro onto the steering wheel. I thought this was silly on the Kensington, but found that it quickly became a necessity. The convenience of being able to play, pause, and skip tracks without moving my eyes or taking a hand off the wheel is great. The reliability of the Kensington remote was "inconsistent", however. The Griffin seems to work consistently, but has a very "firm" touch and doesn't always respond when buttons are pressed casually. I do like the button to manually activate the backlight, when it's gone out. The Griffin remote is detachable from a magnetic base, which I find pointless: I see no need to remove it, and several times it's been knocked off accidentally and I need to search for it on the floor.
The flexible neck is stiff and stable, but reasonably easily adjustable; it's longer than the Kensington's neck, and that makes the iPhone more visible and accessible. The AUX cable has jacks on both ends so it can be replaced (unlike the Kensington's). It's much longer than the Kensington's, which might be an advantage or disadvantage depending on your car. (Way more cord than I really need.)
Some glitch in the Kensington occasionally caused my iPhone 3G to complain that the charger wasn't compatible. It still played through the AUX, and charged, but the remote was apparently disabled. Sometimes removing and re-inserting would resolve the problem, and sometimes it wouldn't. I haven't (at least yet) seen that issue with the Griffin, which is a "plus".
Advantages: long stiff neck, easy to adjust; custom fit "heads" for iPod/iPhone models; wireless remote
Disadvantages: custom fit "heads" may mean carrying more than one, and might be a problem for new models down the road; heads aren't labeled so it can be tedious to find the right one; remote is too easily detachable

It works great and has a USB port and a dual male connector cord so it is compatible with basically any mp3 player. Also, you can use any frequency which guarantees at least one will come through clear. On top of this, the case actually fits the new iPod (Note: The volume button is covered, but still able to be pressed since it is a silicone case). Overall this is a great product, and for the price it is a steal and can't be beat. I would recommend to anyone that is looking for an FM transmitter for their car.

What it doesn't say is that it that you will get a message stating that it will only work in AIRPLANE MODE. Click "NO" to NOT go into AIRPLANE mode and it wil work fine anyway.
Also, you can skip connecting the charging piece and only connect the sound/headphone output to the FM transmitter -- it works fine as well.

I have owned several FM transmitters (Griffin, Belkin) and always found them to be very annoying with having to change channels constantly. With this one I drove all the way across New York State and never changed the channel once. There was very little hissing and interference. Moreover, the holder is very handy and adjusts to many different sized ipods. I have a Touch, I didn't try it on other kinds. Great product! (Even has a remote, which I will probably lose, but it's still nifty)

(More customer reviews)Despite the great price of this product, I was quite disappointed when it broke within three uses. Two main problems...the iPod doesn't stay docked well and frequently falls out while going down the road. Secondly, the dongle that plugs into the bottom of the iPod came apart to where only the metal was exposed. This was a huge problem in that the small parts cannot be easily reassembled (if at all) and caused the dongle to get jammed into the iPod. Luckily, I was able to remove it and salvage my iPod from any permanent damage. There are two great points to this product, however. One being its clarity. When the proper channel was chosen, the songs came in rather clearly. The second is the remote. The remote worked great and was a nice addition. All in all, I would not recommend this product.

(More customer reviews)A few weeks ago I was looking for a mounting solution for my iPhone in my Dodge truck, and was intrigued by the description and reviews I saw of this one. A few days later, it arrived & I began experimenting with different ways to mount it. The more ways I tried, the more I realized how versatile of a mount this is. My mounting location of choice was the overhanging lip of the dashboard, above and to the right of the steering wheel. However, the dash is composed of sort of rippled, patterned plastic, and I seriously doubted that I could get any kind of suction cup mount to work.
Amazingly, the "Smart Pad" that comes with this mount solves this problem perfectly, although it is not very well described in the enclosed instructions. The Smart Pad is simply a tacky, very soft rubber-like disc, which is placed between a non-uniform mounting surface, and the suction cup mount. Somehow, by applying suction against it from the suction cup mount side, the soft surface against the non-uniform mounting surface conforms to that surface and maintains suction against it. Once I figured this out, I successfully managed to mount my iPhone just above and to the right of steering wheel. I set it up so that it was easily visible while driving, got good GPS reception through the windshield, and was easily touched from my right hand, even while holding on to the steering wheel.
But, how well would it hang on to the overhanging lip, and how long would it stay? The true test came right away: a drive from from Arizona to Alaska via the Alaska Highway - four days of normal road vibration, followed by about two days of rough roads with potholes, and frostheaves. The result: it didn't come off even once. I had to worry about mosquitoes, shifting trailer loads, and high gas prices. But never about my iPhone coming loose.
A couple of weeks later, it continues to hang on tightly. No longer do I have to fumble around with my iPhone to change songs, or try to wrestle it out from in between the seats, where it's slid into on a corner.
Overall, a convenient mounting option for the iPhone that is versatile, well-made, and easy to use.
