I bought this so I could carry talk radio or podcasts around the house with me while I do chores, and it works beautifully. Includes a cable for connecting to your MP3 player. The quality of the speaker is not much better than a musical greeting card, so I would not recommend it for music.

Ramsey FM30B Digital FM Stereo Transmitter Review

Ramsey FM30B Digital FM Stereo Transmitter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Excellent sound quality: no whistling, no microphonics, no noise, frequencies are dead-on and do not drift, good enough to listen to over a serious hi-fi system. Not only will it fill your house with its signal, it will fill half the neighborhood unless you turn the power down. It seems the market for the transmitter includes drive-in movies who use it to broadcast the sound track to a few acres of cars. The circuitry has obviously been designed by someone who knows their way around radio transmitters, this is very solid gear, you won't find better.
Now the downside:
-- You better like putting together Heatkits and can tell a 22K resistor from a 22uH choke. A temperature controlled soldering iron, micro-cutters, fine needle-nose pliers and desoldering braid (for correcting the inevitable mistake) would be good things to have.
-- Even with the best soldering equipment, expect soldering to be a bit of a trial: the multi-layer circuit board does not have thermal reliefs on the pads connecting to the ground plane; lots of luck desoldering same...

The FM30B is designed using through-hole technology and components and is available only as a do-it-yourself kit, with a 25mW output. It is designed around an RF tight vinyl clad metal enclosure for noise free and interference free operation. Enter the setup mode from the front panel and step through the menu to make all of your adjustments. A two line LCD display shows you all the settings! In addition to the LCD display, a front panel LED indicates the PLL lock so you know you are transmitting. Besides frequency selection, front panel control and display gives you 256 steps of audio volume as well as RF output power. A separate balance setting compensates for left/right differences in audio level. The LCD display shows you "Quality of Signal" to help you set your levels for optimum sound quality. All settings are stored in the non-volatile memory for future use! The design includes EMI filters on line level audio and power inputs, and a state of the art microstrip PCB inductor to reduce microphonics for the ultimate in alignment free operation. RF output is through a professional well shielded rear panel BNC connector for a perfect antenna match. Standard RCA connectors are used for left and right line level audio inputs. The FM30B operates on a 13.8 to 16VDC and includes a 15VDC plug in power supply. The metal case measures 5.55"W x 6.45"D x 1.5"H.(Note: The FM30B is a do-it-yourself learning kit that you assemble. Ramsey FM25B Synthesized FM Stereo Transmitter Kit Review

Ramsey FM25B Synthesized FM Stereo Transmitter Kit

This great hobbyist kit transmits a clear signal over 1200ft or 1/4 mile.
There are about 100 components to solder. You can also buy it pre-assembled for an extra $75USD.
It takes about an hour or so to build. But beginners can take up to six hours.
Checking, adjusting, testing and making an antenna can take all day.
The sound quality is great. By that I mean it's comparable to a tape player or a record player.
The stereo separation is also great. I checked left, I checked right.
I didn't install the built-in telescoping antenna.
I connected an external antenna.
You can also just plug in a five foot 22-gauge sold copper wire.
I also noticed that the manual fails to tell you to install the built-in antenna.
With a dipole antenna or better and placing it outside a window, the transmitted signal can go about a mile if unobstructed.
But now I'll have to lower that signal strength before the FCC comes and yanks out my antenna.-----------------------
1/20/2010 unit still alive. Its on all the time. 24/7/365.

Need professional quality features but can't justify the cost of a commercial FM exciter? The FM25B is the answer! A cut above the rest, the FM25B features a PIC microprocessor for easy frequency programming without the need for look-up tables or complicated formulas! The transmit frequency is easily set using DIP switches, no need for tuning coils or "tweaking" to work with today's digital receivers. Frequency drift is a thing of the past with PLL control making your signal rock solid all the time - just like commercial stations. The FM25B's real claim to fame however is the use of the latest cutting edge stereo generator on the market. The audio quality is excellent with amazingly good stereo separation to keep even the pickiest audiophiles happy! Connections are as good as they get; use the provided cable to interface with the line output of any CD player, tape deck, computer or mike mixer. Just build it, plug it in, and you're on the air! Foreign buyers will appreciate the high power output capability of the FM25B; many Caribbean folks use a single FM25B to cover the whole island! New and improved with clean and hum-free running on either 12VDC or 110VAC with the supplied transformer. Comes complete with case set, whip antenna, 120VAC power adapter, 1/8" Stereo to RCA patch cable and of course the world famous Ramsey assembly instructions. You'll be on the air before you know it! Case size 5 w x 1 1/2 h x 5 1/4 d.(Note: The FM25B is a do-it-yourself learning kit that you assemble. The end user is responsible for complying with all FCC rules & regulations within the US, or any regulations of their respective governing body)

Mac PC USB Wireless FM Transmitter 4 Home Stereo Audio Review

Mac PC USB Wireless FM Transmitter 4 Home Stereo Audio

I wanted to be able to listen to my favorite radio stations on my office stereo, and my favorite local station often has static, plus I wanted to listen to stations all over the world with high quality sound. I originally wanted one of those systems that would communicate directly with my wireless router, so I wouldn't have to have my PC on. Those systems are fairly expensive, most over $100, and from reviews, seem to have issues. So, I thought, this is an inexpensive solution, and the one review at the time was positive, so I decided to give it a try. I don't really spend much time in my home office without the PC on, so that didn't seem to be a problem.
Anyway, this is a perfect solution if you want to listen to Internet radio on a stereo system. Sound quality depends on the station, presumably the bitrate, so it's not always great but if the stream is of good quality, the sound is wonderful. I've tried comparing the sound quality of stations I can get locally with their online versions, and you do pay a price. The depth of sound just isn't there, but the complete absence of static more than makes up for it. And for me, there's no alternative. Also, the fact that it streams audio from the PC means I can keep a large list of stations I want to access on the PC, which I think is far simpler than trying to do that on a component that communicates directly with the router.
Setup was a breeze, I literally just plugged it into a USB port, set the dip switches to the frequency I had chosen, set my tuner to that frequency, and that was it. Well, also had to adjust the volume on Windows, it thinks this is a pair of USB speakers, and the default volume was low, so increasing it meant that the volume on the stereo matched that of local radio stations. But really, it could not be simpler. Of course now all the audio from my PC goes to the stereo, it would be nice if I could confine the audio I want to go there to the transmitter and the rest of the audio to my PC speakers, but haven't figured out a way to do that. Not a big problem though. And, the audio from this decvice can be picked up on the other stereos in my home.
One quibble: The information I had at the time I ordered did not tell me what FM (tuner)frequencies could be used. I read an online review from some stereo publication on the device, where the author was actually in the UK (I'm in the US). He had said that the allowable frequencies were at the low end, around 89 MHz, so no trouble finding an unused frequency, which is necessary. When I received the transmitter, however, I found I was restricted to 5 frequencies around 107 MHz. I live one hour north of New York City, so finding an empty frequency in that range is a challenge. I had only one choice, 107.3, not used by a local station but there was significant bleed from others. However, when I plugged in the device, the carrier wave instantly overrode that noise, so it's not an issue, but I think it would make much more sense to use the lower end of the band. Someone near a big city might have trouble finding an unused frequency in the upper end. Or, add another dip switch to allow more combinations, and thus more possible frequencies.
Otherwise, I think this is a great product, and probably the best, most cost-effective solution, if you want to listen to Internet radio (or anything else from your PC) on a conventional stereo system.
