(More customer reviews)Like other reviewers, I was impressed with the sound out of such seemingly small speakers. However, my Sansa is much newer (e280, and apparently not backward compatible with all the accesories...) and it did not fit on the dock or in the clips - nor did any of the additional connection configurations work to power/charge the player while playing it through the speakers. The headphone jack connector worked to play the music from my player through the speakers, but that was it. So, my recommendation is that this system is great if you have the correct version of the Sansa player. If not, the jumble of cords and lack of charging capability make this system less desirable. I am returning mine and plan to buy something that my Sansa will dock into directly.
UPDATE: I purchased the Altec Lansing im510 Dock for my e280 Sansa at Best Buy and it sounds (and charges) great. It's about $80 now.

(More customer reviews)For the price of this audio accessory combination, it is really hard to complain much. The FM transmitter module allows the user to pipe his phone, MP3 player, etc. music to an unused FM station frequency on one's car radio, or any FM receiver. The resulting audio (the car or home speaker system) is a very pleasing alternative to the small device sound we usually hear.
As for the Portable Stereo Speakers, one must not expect too much from such a small device. While the bass is somewhat lacking, due to the small size, the range and tonal reproduction is a vast improvement over an in-ear headset, and one needn't walk around with all that stuff on his/her head!
Keep in mind also that the low end response (with speakers or a headset) can be vastly improved by adjusting the source device equalizer settings to favor bass response. One can not unrealistically expect thunderous bass from such a compact design, however.
Also, this package only specifically relates to the Sansa MP3 devices because of the small integral shelf which one may rest the device upon (like an iPod dock). Aside from that, the product will accommodate any audio device you wish to plug into it (3.5mm plug - Left/Right/Ground). The same applies to the FM transmitter, which is input and output device independent.
I must also mention that an unrelated problem with the speakers was immediately remedied by the DBROTH people - a very good indication of their devotion to customer service!
Thus, overall, this product is well worth the very minimal expense even if used rarely, and the seller people are really nice to deal with!

(More customer reviews)I've never written a review on Amazon before, but I like this unit so much that I thought I'd capture a few points that I think make this player a great choice:
1.) Currently an excellent $/GB value.
2.) Build quality is great (solid metal backplane). Screen will scratch, but one of the many available screen protectors will address this problem.
3.) User interface is well-deigned. I'm a fairly big guy (6'1") with large hands, but I have no problems operating the 4 buttons arranged around the scroll wheel. I was apprehensive about the scroll wheel, but it works great for me. The fact that it - unlike the iPod wheel - is raised a bit (i.e., has a positive profile) makes it easy to locate with your thumb when the player is out of view.
4.) Battery life is excellent; I've never run the unit to full discharge, but with heavy use on trans-pacific flights I've never gotten close to battery-empty status, so the stated 20 hrs. seems very realistic.(Remember that turning the brightness down will do wonders for battery life...)
5.) My player is loaded to capacity, and it takes apx. 10-15 sec. for booting, no more.
6.) Sandisk phone customer service has been more than satisfactory on two occasions (wait time was quite long but the actual service was very good).

iriver CXW-2G Clix 2 GB Digital Music and Video Player, White Review

Packaging
iRiver does a good job with their packaging by making it simple and clean, probably taking note of Apple's packaging strategy, though not as refined. All the included accessories are placed in clearly labeled paper boxes making it simple and easy to find what you need quickly. There is no foam padding of any sort to protect any of the accessories or the player itself but I do not think this will be a problem because the Clix is a flash based player. The Clix itself is protected by a sticker with a printed on animation of the "now playing" screen. There is a "starter kit" that comes with the Clix that contains the manual, quick start guide, software CD, various documentations, and a neoprene case with a screen cleaner. The case fits the player very snugly and is padded enough to ensure proper protection. The screen cleaner does a decent job though I sometimes found that it just smeared the oils from my skin instead of absorbing it.
The packaging for the cradle dock contains a series of boxes as well with no foam padding to protect anything but everything came out of the box in perfect condition. The cradle comes with a line-in cable, 3.5mm extension plug, the dock itself, and an IR remote.
I enjoyed the packaging but it did not wow me as Apple's packaging does. I was concerned with the lack of protection for the components though none of them were damaged. I would like it if iRiver included some plastic molds to hold their components to make it seem more professional while adding some protection at the same time.
Design
The Clix is one of the most beautifully designed MP3 players I have ever seen. The button-less screen creates a very clean and sleek look that resembles a flat panel television. Since there are no buttons to press, navigation is done through pressing the sides of the screen. The sides of the screen are tactile buttons and not touch sensitive, which would have made it too sensitive. The rest of the controls are located on the sides of the player which include dedicated volume buttons, a power button, a "smart key," and a hold switch. The hold switch does not only cease the function of the screen buttons but actually locks the screen buttons into place so they can not be pressed. This is a wise choice by iRiver because it will prevent wear and tear on the buttons. The back of the player is made of glossy white plastic and has a clean look to it instead of having a bunch of Windows, SRS, WOW, and other logos. While the screen of the player seems very scratch resistant, the back seems to be more prone to scratching so users should exercise caution. One of my favorite design features of the Clix is its ability to switch between landscape and portrait modes. Portrait mode is useful in allowing one-handed operation of the player, though it is a little more difficult that I would have liked it to be. Since users have to touch the sides of the player to navigate, they will find their thumbs and hands obstructing their view when pressing some buttons. Though it this is a little annoying, it is bearable and does not take away from the overall pleasurable experience of using the player. Another gripe is that the reset button can only be pressed by inserting a paperclip into a pin-sized hole located at the bottom of the player. Both Creative and iRiver have to find a simpler way to reset the player. I really like the simple button combo that makes the iPod reset itself. Creative and iRiver should take note.
Once in the Cradle Dock, the player will resemble a retro-style television which will draw stares and wow your friends. There are tiny speakers on the back of the dock that allow wireless use of your player. The dock gives the player the awesome feature of line-in recording but also disables an important feature, the FM tuner. I assume this happens because there is no headphone lead to act as an antenna, which would have given the player horrible reception. The dock also lets you connect a line-out cable so you can listen to your music on better speakers and there is a mini-USB connector to allow you to sync your player while it is still in the dock. The included IR remote is the only method of navigating the player while it is in the dock. The remote has a very slim profile and membrane type buttons and while this remote provides excellent functionality for the player while it is in the dock, it is poorly designed because the buttons become a little exhausting after prolonged use and the directional buttons are a bit more spread out than I would have liked. The remote also looks quite cheap with an uneven fit and finish and lack of attention to detail. Perhaps I am being nit-picky but I do enjoy the fact that every function can be accessed wirelessly.
One design feature that I find refreshing is the USB cable that is provided with the player. It has a mechanism that locks the player into place on the cable and can only be unlocked by holding buttons on the side. This results in a secure attachment to your computer, making it impossible to accidentally disconnect your player while it is performing a sync which could wreck the player. More manufacturers should take note of this simple, yet ingenious locking mechanism.
Finally, if you are worried about the durability of Clix, worry no more. I gave this Clix to my sister as a present and she has the reputation of having the "touch of death" with all things electronic. It has been over two weeks and I'm happy to report that the player has not scratched. This is truly an amazing testament to the kind of plastic that iRiver chose to make the Clix's screen with.
Performance
Once I fired up the player for the first time, I was immediately impressed with the fluidity of the interface and how beautifully simplistic, yet sophisticated the menus were laid out. Everything is laid out very logically and can be picked up without reading the instruction manual, which I believe most people do. The GUI reminds me of Windows Media Center, which makes sense because iRiver worked very closely with Microsoft on the development of this player. The "now playing" screen really impresses me in that it uses its screen real estate to deliver tons of information without searching through a sub menu. Song title, album name, song rating, artist name, year of album release, time, battery meter, EQ setting, number of songs in current playlist, and my favorite, next song. More companies should add a "next song" display on their players. Though this may seem like an overwhelming amount of information to be displayed on one screen, I did not find it confusing at all. One thing that bugged me about the interface was the fact that you could not delete songs or recordings from the player.
Pictures are browsed on the player in list form, displaying a small thumbnail of the highlighted picture. Photos look accurate and fluid on the screen as it would on the computer screen though detail is lost because of the 320x240 resolution. There is no over saturation as with other players, namely my Creative Zen Vision: M. Videos can also be played on this device and look good for 15 frames per second (fps). I expected the video experience to be severely degraded compared to the 30fps that my Vision: M is capable of but I am pleasantly surprised that there was minimal difference. Music videos looked great and the screen provided excellent viewing angles. I would advise against watching anything longer than a few minutes on the Clix because of two reasons: one being that the screen is so small and will fatigue your eyes and two being the fact that the player maxes out at a dainty 2 GB.
My favorite feature about the Clix is its ability to record in several different ways. There is FM recording which is very handy for catching shows or songs you want to save, thought the RIAA will not be happy about the latter. You can also perform voice recordings and line-in recordings. Voice recordings were of average quality and had a hard time picking up sounds that were far away. I would not use the Clix to record lectures or conferences though it is a handy tool for taking notes or to do a casual podcast. Line-in recording provided much more of a use because of its excellent recording quality. If set at "high" recording quality, files are encoded at 256kbps MP3s and 128kbps at "medium" quality. Recording whole albums is a simple process though editing the file names and ID3 tags of the songs is not as fun or pleasurable. I did encounter a few problems when recording, one of which was the recording volume. Even when set at the highest recording volume and max volume from the recording source (my ZVM) the volume of the recorded tracks was still lower than I would have liked them to be. Another problem I encountered was the track splitting function which breaks up the recording when it doesn't sense any sound for 2 seconds. For classical albums, it could not sense the gaps correctly and recorded the album as one huge MP3. My final gripe about the line-in recording function is that the recordings are stored deep in the submenus of the "Extras" section which is irritating when you want to find your recordings and listen to them since they are not included in your library. Hopefully a firmware update will place a folder in the music library for recordings.
With all of these extra features, it is easy to forget what the Clix was designed to do and that is to play music and boy does the Clix deliver. (More customer reviews)I have owned three other Sandisk MP3 players and had no problems with any of them. Some of the issues in other reviews here can be solved by reading the manual.
Simply set to MSC mode and the player acts just like a removeable hard drive when connected via USB. Very simple to transfer or delete songs etc.
The 2Gb is reasonably good capacity... in fact, great capacity considering the price. The FM radio works fine, although a little trickier to navigate than some older sandisk models. Color screen is good, although a little too small to be practicable to view photos on. The song title can also take a little too long to scroll fully.
I had no trouble with sound quality or crackling or clipping at start of song. Sound quality is fine! Battery life also seems good for me. I have even ran some el cheapo batteries with it and had good life up to the stated specs (although this depends on how much you press buttons and have the screen lit up).
Voice recorder is handy, although I find I don't use it too much, your mileage may vary though. As a basic MP3 player and radio, I find it hard to beat given the price tag. I have no issues with size of the unit. Sure its not as thin as an Ipod Nano, but it takes one AAA battery which you can get anywhere. No need to have a power point to recharge.
I think some people expect perfection for a budget price!

(More customer reviews)June 15 2006 - Unlike some of the reviewers, I couldn't care less about music "services" be they iTunes, Rhapsody, etc.
Why pay 0.99 to anyone for DRM crippled tracks?
The artist doesn't benefit.
I listen to CDs I have bought and ripped.
For that purpose, this unit works beautifully with *any* OS including Mac X, WinXP, even Linux.
The e270 can act like a flash/keychain drive:
just go into the Settings menu and change the USB mode.
The e270 also shows the album art (folder.jpg) while playing tracks.
The e200 series has a beautiful display, better than the Nano.
I wouldn't whine about the design being imitative:
the Nano has better quality buttons/wheel,
the e270's controls are comparatively flimsy-feeling and are harder for large fingers to operate.
Besides, didn't Apple copy from *Creative's* mp3 players in the first place?
The courts are reviewing that question now.
THE ISSUE.
My only issue is that the USB cable is proprietary, mandatory, and irreplaceable.
And, Sandisk is currently unable to provide a replacement if you lose it.
Without the special Sandisk USB cable, you can't even recharge the on-board Lithium battery,
and also there's no wall wart for AC power available either.
By contrast, my previous Sandisk e140 player (a 1GB model) uses an AAA battery
--and the same USB cable most digital cameras use.
Battery- and connection-wise the e140 is a better solution,
but the drawback is a dim monocolor display.
If you have good eyesight, the e140 is a great economy player;
but the e270 is the ultimate luxury toy.
Everyone who sees my e270 is smitten.
UPDATE July 6th -
Sandisk says it is _now_ able to ship me a replacement
"e270 to USB" cable, so give them credit for that.
Also, according to internet rumor, Griffin makes an e270-compatible wall-wart (AC Power) solution.
Finally, no solution is available yet to the "cannot play-tracks-in-album-order" issue,
a problem I failed to mention above.
This might drive you seriously insane when you play Mozart or Beethoven on the thing when the IV movement isn't played fourth.
Or, when an mp3 audio book can't be played
in chapter order!
We're waiting every day for the firmware update from Sandisk that fixes this track ordering bug.

(More customer reviews)I have read a lot of negative reviews about FM car transmitters for MP3 players. I was especially hesitant to buy one from Sandisk because it is not really a well-known MP3 player like iPod, Creative Labs, etc. In the end, I figured it would be worth it because although the Sandisk e140 may not have certain features or size capabilities as others, it was definately a quality product that is very well priced, so I figured the FM transmitter would follow suite. Thankfully, I was right. The FM transmitter is by far one of the best design I have seen. The adjustable neck allows me to set the Transmitter right next to my CD car stereo and tilt it to face me, which allows me to hit the next song button as easy as it is to reach the car stereo. Other products I have seen are limp, or just wires that you have to rest on the center console, or passanger seat. The only downside to this is that although the MP3 player remains powered by the car its indigo light goes off after about a minute so I am unable to see the display. Not really a negative towards the transmitter, but of the MP3 player.
A key element I have read about faulty, or glitched FM tranmitters for MP3 players is that static can be heard in the background no matter how much you turn up the volume, and sound quality is very poor. Regarding the Sandisk, these are not issues at all. There are 3 presets so you dont have to find the good stations every time you use it. In addition, the sound quality is great, perhaps even better than the car stereo sound settings presently depending on the quality of your car stereo. The sound setting can be adjusted on your MP3 player to make the sound quality even more precise than the car stereo's.
Overall, I highly recommend this to anyone who has thought to buy an FM transmitter for their Sansa and avoided it because of other mainstream MP3 brands tainting opinions.
--One last note. I am in Chicago so I dont know if that is a cause for such good empty FM signals for the MP3 transmitter to pick up on.--

(More customer reviews)I bought mine just a few days ago and have been enjoying it ever since. I bought it to replace a pitiful Coby unit that had the same 1GB of memory but none of the ease of this one.
Good aspects of this player:
1) it's wonderfully small and easy to carry around. The lanyard provided easily goes around my neck and keeps the player secure so that I don't drop it down a drainpipe or something.
2) you can get started using it in seconds. Literally--seconds. I pulled it out of the package and had the radio going immediately, setting up my fave stations with great ease. When it comes to loading music on to it? Easy peasy. I use Windows Media Player 11 and just sync this player, filling it with all the music I need.
3) it's easy to use music services with this one (I am using URGE). I just download the songs I want onto my pc, then sync them with this player. Takes very little time and gives me absolutely no hassles. The player is immediately recognized by WMP, and syncing is a breeze. (Note: I'm not techno-savvy enough to distinguish between different music file types and the like; all I have is WMA files, I think, and that's just groovy for me; if, however, you are really really into this and have other preferences, don't like DRM scoping out your activities, etc., then this player may not be your best choice).
4) the little screen is pleasant and colorful, and you can even view album covers on it if those are available for the tracks you've sync'd to the player.
5) the microSD slot means I can add even more songs quite easily rather than having to buy another player.
6) the price is fantastic. I didn't get mine on Amazon because I wanted it RIGHT NOW, and it still cost me very little, compared to iPods and other more expensive brands. I paid way less than I would for a Shuffle, and in my opinion got a better, more flexible unit.
7) when you turn the unit off, then power it back on, you start precisely where you last left off. I love that! The Coby one would always take me back to the beginning of my song list. Talk about frustrating! This one allows me to start where I left off or use menu functions to locate artists, albums, songs, playlists, etc. For example, the other day I wanted only to listen to some meditation tracks I had on it. I just hit the menu button, found "Music" and then scrolled down to playlists. I hit the big button once, got to the playlist and told it to "play all." And there it went. Lovely!
8) Sound quality is very nice. I've got everything from spoken word to hard rock on mine, and it all sounds good. Last night I listened to Van Morrison's "Crazy Love," and I swear I heard him breathing on that track for the first time. Nice that the player has good equalizer customization so that I can finetune how my stuff sounds. Now for the not-so-positive aspects:
1) the battery life SUCKS. Sucks badly. Did I mention that it really SUCKS the big one?!?! I have charged it twice already, and never have I gotten more than an hour and 10 minutes of use before it starts to look like it's 1/3 empty. That means, if logic holds, that the battery life for me would be less than 5 hours. I don't know about you, but that just does not have me smiling.
2) charging the battery is done through the use of a USB cable you hook up to your computer, and each time I hook this unit up, the player turns on. Seems to me to defeat the purpose to have it being in use whilst charging it, but okay. Anyway, it's a bummer to have to carry that cable around with me wherever. I will have to invest in a different charger.
3) The contrast on the screen isn't what it could be. Sometimes I can't tell how much juice I still have in it because the contrast is so bad. I've tried all sorts of settings and can't find a way to fix the problem. I'm doomed to eye strain, I guess. Heh.
4) I have less than 150 songs on the unit and am already using 90% of its capacity. Urg. I expected to get more songs on it than that, but then maybe some of the songs I've got on there are really long. Don't think so, but hey. I'll give Sansa the benefit of the doubt.
5) the headphones that come with it are painfully uncomfortable. But then manufacturer-provided headphones seem to always suck, so there you go.

(More customer reviews)I hated my iPOD Mini so I tried a small flash player that was OK but hard to read & use. Then I found the Sansa M240 (1GB) for only $87 (Circuit City) and I'm thrilled with it.
Sound quality is very good with the supplied earbuds and using the Custom EQ. Without the Custom EQ I might not be so happy. A neckstrap with the earbuds would be nice but can be added. There's a hole to add a lanyard.
These 55 year old eyes found the Display easy to read even in the dark with a large, bold font and good contrast. The backlight is good but I'd prefer a lighter shade of blue for even better contrast. Very minor issue and really a matter of preference.
The controls are outstanding and one of the best features! The LARGE buttons are very easy to use and provide good tactile response.
Build quality is typical of similar products and seems well made with good fit and finish. Lightweight and handy size. Overall design is excellent in that they've put a large display and large buttons into a unit only slightly larger than a thumb drive!
I haven't gone through a battery yet but I do like the fact that it runs on a single AAA battery and doesn't need to be recharged with a cable or charger. I always keep a few AAA's in my briefcase anyway for "in-flight" replacements.
Connection to a PC is simple with the supplied standard mini-USB cable (same as for my phone and camera!). I like that there are no proprietary cables or connectors. I prepared my playlist with WMP and synched the M240. The M240 automatically sorts by artist, album and genre.
Although I haven't used it yet, the subscription compatibility is something I will probably use.
The FM Tuner receives even weaker stations and has 20 presets. With that many I can use different groups of presets for favorites in multiple cities. It would be nice to be able to record from FM as some units do but it's not a big deal.
There is a voice recorder funtion that might be handy but I don't really need it.
If you like simple & easy and eschew tiny, hard to use buttons and miniscule displays, you will like this a LOT - and it SOUNDS good.
Bottom Line: YES, I would buy it again!

You have to crank your radio up to max to barely hear anything, the background noise is louder then what you are trying to play and the noise is coming from the transmitter. The FM channel choices should work in my area as there is next to no signal on them from a radio station. But as soon as it is plugged in the background noise is horrific. I even tried soldering some wire onto the transmitting antenna and putting it next to the cars antenna and it made no difference. My ipod with a Monster transmitter works flawlessly on the same frequencies.

Pro:
Size: It is pretty small yet not hard to use the controls
FM Radio: That's pretty nice in such a small MP3 player. Top that iPod
Expansion slot: The micro SD card makes this player future proof. Have more music to upload? get a card and you are done. iPod doesn't have it.
Voice recorder: was not on my wish list, but nice to have.
changable battery: battery goes bad, you can change it. iPod can't do this.
If you hit a button by accident while listening to the music, the button just wakes up the device then you can tell it what to do. Small feature but saves a LOT of annoying moments.
Sound is pretty good, unlike some reviews I have read. It is pretty much in par with other MP3 players especially iPod which is the benchmark these days.
Price: half of iPod Nano.
Con:
The package only comes with a USB charger. I have seen some plugs that have a USB output, or you can get their optional AC adapter.
Memory slot although nice, but there is no dummy card in it to avoid things getting stuck in it, so I just put a cheapy micro SD to fill the hole.
The screen could use some more contrast or better color scheme to display the menu better. You get used to it right away, but I am being super crtitcal here.

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Silver) Review

(More customer reviews)What I really like about it is the size, capacity, and most of all price.
The codec support is about average, not great but it satisfies my needs as 99% of my music is encoded in mp3 format.
One of my dislikes is common among all sandisk mp3 players(and most other players) is that the charging/syncing port is proprietary. Not a big issue, mini-usb would have been nice though.
Video playback was smooth(used a mp4 350MB recorded tv show) no sync problems between the audio/video and no stuttering. Too small to really be considered for video playback though.
Picture viewing is about the same as video and by that I mean it works great and the pictures look ok but the screen is so small it is not practical to show off pics with it.
Voice recording works well, don't have to hold it directly to my face to clearly record sounds...although I'm not sure what this can be used for but it is there and works well.
The radio works great, easy station browsing, easy to add stations to presets, and reception is very clear.
The sound is very accurately produced at all ranges. The included headphones fit well and sound good. The volume goes up much higher than I could ever think I would need it. For those of you who are runners, I use the earphones that come with it and they direct the sound very well into my ears so I do not have to make it too loud and can still hear some of the environmental sounds: wind noise is hardly noticeable.
The screen is easy to see in all light conditions, bright, and easy to read.
The build quality feels great. It has generous weight to it, light enough to take running and not really notice it but heavy enough to give it a solid feel. The front of the device is a bit shiny and does tend to attract fingerprints easily but not scratches so far.
Expansion port works great, currently using a 4GB microsdhc to shuttle podcasts/audiobooks between it my pc.
Navigation is a breeze and the menus are very intuitive, the scroll wheel/buttons are easy to find and press even with the player not in sight.
Syncing I very easy to do without the need for bloated software. You can add media to it via a file explorer(drag & drop) or one of several media players like WMP, winamp, and a variety of others. The datbase is auto-updating and works flawlessly. I have seen a few reviews that say the database refresh takes a while. With a completely full internal memory and half full 4gb card my refreshes only take 15-30 seconds.
A few final notes. The boot-up is about 3-5 seconds from off to playing music after pressing the power button. It will resume the music exactly where you left it when turning it off. Actual usable memory is about 7.8 GB. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, best on the market right now but not perfect of course.
UPDATE: 2 new "cons" I have come across. Technically the device is performing as intended but I am hoping for a firmware update to "resolve" these.
1. When scrolling, the speed of scrolling does not increase. Basically takes forever if the song you want is in the second half of the alphabet. This will probably be changed in the next firmware update though.
2. The podcasts are sorted by most recent first. This kind of makes since so you dont have to scroll to the bottom to listen to the newest one but it also causes a problem if you are trying to listen to a series in order and it starts playing through them backwards. :( Probably no "fix" for this issue although being able to choose how it is sorted would be great.

(More customer reviews)I am usually very careful and consider all options before buying anything, when it came to the Sansa Clip 4 GB it was love at first site, I was hooked once I saw the diminutive little booger, impulse buy on the spot. I had been looking for an small FM radio to wear at the gym an almost impossible feat these days and most of the "mini" MP3 players either don't offer the options I deemed necessary, IE; the ability to choose what I want to listen to, or are too large and get in the way, the teeeenie Clip seemed to offer the best of both worlds, and for $50 large I figured it was a small gamble.
I really did not have very high expectations, considering I have four mini FM radios with more different ways to attach to one's body it would make a bondage expert blush. I was also very weary about the built in FM player, since most small FM receivers I had tried were not worth spit. So to my amazement when I downloaded 3.5 GB of songs from my Windows Media player,(which was brainless by the way) and had a listen, I nearly fell out of my chair, this thing sounds unbelievable!!! And to top it off the FM player actually worked and worked well!
I figured maybe it was due to the fact that I was listening through a set of full ear Sennheiser studio quality headphones, so I started to niggle around and listen through my litany of other headphones and earbuds I have gathered over the past couple of years. Results, the sound was good with some, poor with the buds that came with the player, and UN-FRICKEN REAL with a pair of Skullcandy INK'D $20.00, ($14.99 Amazon) buds I purchased the same day as a back up to my Shure EC3'S I use with my First Gen IPod.
I found it hard to believe the clarity and detail of the Clip when paired with the Skullcandy INK'D buds, this combination exceeded all the other headphones and buds in my collection, which includes (stupid money) Grados. I asked myself why would a $20.00 set of cheap buds sound better than a $500 dollar pair of some of the finest headphones ever made?? Answer, sensitivity, plug the Grado or Sennheiser's into a DAC headphone amp (CityPulse overclocked) played through a OPPO DV980H upscaled to 192k, and yes the difference is more than obvious, so is the $1200 ticket price to the show. What is truly mind boggling for $1140 dollars less you can get in the game with the Sansa Clip/Skullcandy INK'D combo, which sounds better than most home systems costing $100's more. Yes that's right folks for $60-70 bucks you can get some amazing detail, clarity and bass response in the perfect "bang for the buck micro system". Top that off it comes in a package that is transparent, has all the features of the "Big Boy Players" and an FM player that is more than acceptable!
This one is a no brainer, open your wallet just a crack, part with what you would spend on a cheap date and pick up this combo, you will be happy you did, and best of all you can take the player home after dinner.
PS: to the guy who stated this is a 3.4 GB player and gave it 3 stars, you don't need to download the software that comes with the player which takes up most of the missing space, I have 3.8 GB of music on mine! The player works like a SD card it does not need software to work...

(More customer reviews)* First off, let me say I am not an "audiophile", nor am I an MP3 junkie, so keep that in mind. This unit is used in my 1997 Ford Ranger STX with it's original so-so stereo:
* The first one that I ordered didn't work and returned it via Amazon's great return method. It is the best hands down for Amazon stocked (not third party) orders.
* The second unit was received quickly & works very good with a couple of comments. Thankfully it has a very wide frequency range because the lower frequencies have a great deal of interference in the Phoenix area. The single quiet "spot" near the higher end of the spectrum is MUCH better with almost no static. Almost. At higher volumes (think booming Rock 'n Roll) it's there alright, but not too bad. The other thing that I hadn't considered much prior to ordering is that the wire leading to the Sansa is a bit funky as it seems to be pretty much all over the place. In retrospect I wish this unit had a plug-in cradle built into it instead of the long wire. But the wire is probably better for the co-pilot to manage if you have one (I don't). The Sansa volume needs to be set to high & around 70-75% before pluging it into the transmitter. Once plugged in you can't change the Sansa volume and it will sound weak through the car/truck stereo if you have it too low before plugging in.
* Overall a good performer so far.

The codec support is about average, not great but it satisfies my needs as 99% of my music is encoded in mp3 format.
One of my dislikes is common among all sandisk mp3 players(and most other players) is that the charging/syncing port is proprietary. Not a big issue, mini-usb would have been nice though.
Video playback was smooth(used a mp4 350MB recorded tv show) no sync problems between the audio/video and no stuttering. Too small to really be considered for video playback though.
Picture viewing is about the same as video and by that I mean it works great and the pictures look ok but the screen is so small it is not practical to show off pics with it.
Voice recording works well, don't have to hold it directly to my face to clearly record sounds...although I'm not sure what this can be used for but it is there and works well.
The radio works great, easy station browsing, easy to add stations to presets, and reception is very clear.
The sound is very accurately produced at all ranges. The included headphones fit well and sound good. The volume goes up much higher than I could ever think I would need it. For those of you who are runners, I use the earphones that come with it and they direct the sound very well into my ears so I do not have to make it too loud and can still hear some of the environmental sounds: wind noise is hardly noticeable.
The screen is easy to see in all light conditions, bright, and easy to read.
The build quality feels great. It has generous weight to it, light enough to take running and not really notice it but heavy enough to give it a solid feel. The front of the device is a bit shiny and does tend to attract fingerprints easily but not scratches so far.
Expansion port works great, currently using a 4GB microsdhc to shuttle podcasts/audiobooks between it my pc.
Navigation is a breeze and the menus are very intuitive, the scroll wheel/buttons are easy to find and press even with the player not in sight.
Syncing I very easy to do without the need for bloated software. You can add media to it via a file explorer(drag & drop) or one of several media players like WMP, winamp, and a variety of others. The datbase is auto-updating and works flawlessly. I have seen a few reviews that say the database refresh takes a while. With a completely full internal memory and half full 4gb card my refreshes only take 15-30 seconds.
A few final notes. The boot-up is about 3-5 seconds from off to playing music after pressing the power button. It will resume the music exactly where you left it when turning it off. Actual usable memory is about 7.8 GB. 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, best on the market right now but not perfect of course.
UPDATE: 2 new "cons" I have come across. Technically the device is performing as intended but I am hoping for a firmware update to "resolve" these.
1. When scrolling, the speed of scrolling does not increase. Basically takes forever if the song you want is in the second half of the alphabet. This will probably be changed in the next firmware update though.
2. The podcasts are sorted by most recent first. This kind of makes since so you dont have to scroll to the bottom to listen to the newest one but it also causes a problem if you are trying to listen to a series in order and it starts playing through them backwards. :( Probably no "fix" for this issue although being able to choose how it is sorted would be great.

(More customer reviews)Alright, so mp3 players, yeah there's so many to choose from, it gets really annoyin, especially when all of your trendy friends are telling you to get an ipod. Don't get me wrong, ipods are great, i have one in fact, and i love it. But i rollerblade (not recreational, like the kind where you go to skateparks and grind handrails and various other things). So the the ipod's size makes it more prone to be broken, which is why I love this thing. I'm going to skip all the candy coating and get straight to the tootsie roll filling:
pros:
-Most other mp3 players are a little bit thinner, but the sansa has a flat control panel and the back is round to fit in your hand, i know, i know, you're going to put it in your pocket, well just put the interface on the inside of the pocket and none of the buttons have a chance of breaking, or the screen.
-The sansa has an extremely long battery life for one little AAA, around 20 hours, which is awesome since i hate buying batteries, but that's not a problem because i have rechargable AAA, but it's gets extremely aggrivating having to recharge batteries everytime you go out.
- The buttons are perfect, they're big, they're bold, what more do you want, and i noticed most mp3 players put these tiny little pin size buttons on their players, what's the point of that.
-The menu is really straightforward and simple. You just press the menu button on top of the player, and then use the 4 buttons (play/pause, previous track, next track, and stop) as the directional buttons on the menu.
-I used to have the older version of the sandisk mp3 players (256mb) and it was never loud enough, like i would be on the bus or in a busy area and not even be able to hear my music! Thankfully they enabled it to become louder and have a better sound quality.
-It's very inexpensive, i payed 40$ for mine from a seller on amazon. And that's about how much it goes for retail everywhere else.
Cons:
-The only problem i have is that the earbuds that they come with aren't the best in the world, but i still use them, they're the only earbuds i have ever found that have fit my ears without a 2 billion dollar price tag. Or i would get new ones.
-The fm tuner that comes with this is junk, i get a good signal every once in a while, but it really shouldn't be used as a marketing gimmick, considering most flash mp3 players have one now.
Ok, well thanks for reading my review of the sandisk sansa 512mb. I forgot to mention that it has a decent voice recorder for notes and such, but i always have mine filled to the the rim with music, so i've never really had the oppurtunity to really try it out.
