XtremeMac IPN-APL-00 Airplay2- White Review

XtremeMac IPN-APL-00 Airplay2- White
Average Reviews:

I must disagree, partially, with a previous review of this product. I find it to be a good product, once you get used to the quirks.
I received the Airplay2 for my birthday and for three weeks thought it was not working -- Sent e-mail to Xtrememac customer service and received no reply, so called them. Learned that I needed to connect the Airplay2 to my Ipod Nano and press/hold the center and menu buttons to re-set. This worked and now I enjoy the AP2 a great deal -- Just thought I'd post the reset fix for those who find themselves in my situation, as it seems a previous reviewer is/was.

Upgrade to the wireless convenience of the AirPlay2 FM transmitter and never messwith the clutter of cords again. Simply plug the AirPlay2 into any dock-connector iPod(excluding the 3G model), tune to the same frequency as your FM radio, and push play. The iPodwill then play your favorite tunes through any FM stereo--including home stereos, car stereos, and clock radios. The AirPlay2 isn't done yet, however, as it also offers a mono mode for betterreception in crowded radio markets, a wide tuning range of 88.1 to 107.9 MHz, threeprogrammable station presets that allow you to conveniently recall your clearest transmissionfrequencies, and a bright blue LCD display with easy-to-read white characters for effortlessdaytime and nighttime viewing.
The AirPlay2 draws its energy from the iPod and uses only a minimal amount of power, allowing for hours of playback time. Connection is just as simple, with a design that slips easilyinto an iPod's dock connector. And thanks to the pass-through female dock connector along thebottom, you can also plug in a charger, letting you play and charge the iPod at the same time. Finally, the AirPlay2's sleek looks match its superior performance, with a stylish narrow housingthat beautifully complements the iPod nano (4th generation and later). The AirPlay2's ease ofuse, quality transmission, and sleek design make it truly unbeatable.
This white model, which comes with an adhesive-backed dash mount, works with the followingiPods: iPod 4G, iPod 4G Color, iPod with video, iPod mini, and iPod nano. The unit is alsocompatible with any 30-pin car charger and is backed by a 90-day warranty.

Myine Electronics IR001 WiFi Internet Radio Adaptor Review

Myine Electronics IR001 WiFi Internet Radio Adaptor
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The press release from Myine Electronics states "Myine's Ira Wireless Internet Radio is designed to harness the universe of radio broadcasts available on the Internet and to allow user enjoyment anywhere a wireless internet connection, a speaker system and power sources are available." And that pretty well sums it up - and it does a great job at it too!
The general point of the unit is to not only give you access to the world of internet streaming radio and podcasts, but to do it easily, quickly, and without having to know a whole lot about what's going on with your network or connections. "There is a lack of good products available for people who are not tech savvy or just busy," said Jake Sigal, Principal and Founder of Myine Electronics. "Ira doesn't have any unnecessary bells and whistles, and sets up automatically right out of the box without a computer. We believe that with potentially confusing electronics, less is more."
When you first break the Ira out of the box, you'll see that it comes with the unit itself, a power cable, and a remote. It relies on WiFi being available to access the internet, and this is the first caution I would give potential buyers - make sure you have WiFi in your home, and that it is strong in the area you intend to put the Ira. The Ira seems very sensitive to interference and distance, so don't expect it to work as consistently and quickly as your laptop card does.
After plugging it in to the power and a set of speakers or a receiver, the next thing you'll need to do is configure it to access that WiFi broadcast. Although the Ira is geared towards `low-tech' users, it will definitely take some knowledge of networking and network configuration (plus a fair amount of patience) if you have any security enabled. Although it picks up the SSID if you are broadcasting that, and will tell you what type of security or encryption protocol, you'll need to be able to enter the passcode. If this is a WEP secure connection, this means you'll need to use the arrows on the remote and a pseudo keyboard on the screen to plunk out the 16 digits/characters/symbols - and unfortunately the Ira will not save incorrect configurations meaning you'll have to do it all again if you get one of the numbers wrong! It saves it if you get it right, so this may not be a big deal, particularly once you're past it.
Once you've got it all set up, you really start seeing the value and power of this unit. Users can filter by location or genre, and there are literally thousands of stations available. There are you're your typical shoutcast internet only stations, but also streaming live stations from around the globe. You've also got access to podcasts (including yours truly) and audio presentations, though you may find some of the more obscure ones missing. Myine selects the podcasts and stations that it will display through some mechanism that wasn't revealed to me. They did add podcasts that I requested (e.g., TechTalk on WRLR) without any questions or hesitation however, so I don't see this as a big hit.
If you're familiar at all with listening to radio or streaming audio on your laptop or desktop, you'll "get" this product immediately. What's really neat about it for me is how portable it is - I can listen to tunes up in my bedroom, then take the little unit downstairs to our porch outside, plug it into some speakers there and keep listening - without having to drag my laptop with it's rather junky soundcard all over the place! It's even small enough to throw in a jacket pocket and take to someone else's house to show off.
One area for future development and a feature that I really missed on the Ira is the lack of song information. Most stations broadcast the track and artist info with the song, but oddly the Ira unit does not display it. You can get a lot of other streaming and audio info, just nothing about the current track playing. The Ira software does have the capability to get updated over the wifi connection you use, so I would expect to see this fixed in a later release.
Overall Rating - 3 out of 5 Chips. It's a fantastic little product and idea, with portability and ease-of-use in the forefront of internet connected audio players (plus the benefit of not paying for XM or other similar options!). The lack of song tagging and weak reception strength make it just a little tougher to use than it should be however, and drops it down a notch. The price point is a touch high but still definitely within reach at around $130.

Cumbersome, slabby, placticky design. USB port secured under a pop-up panel that's hard to open without a pen or coin. Startlingly bad FM reception. Unable to access content on my jump drive; locked up when accessing content on my MP3 player, so that the off button didn't function and I needed to unplug the unit. Overpriced even had those features worked. I returned and went with the JVC EP-25, a less expensive, far superior product with approximately the same features.

I had been using an iRiver transmitter. It was hard to read and lots of the cords made it clumsy to use. This Belkin transmitter plugs into my power adapter and puts my iPod at the perfect height to use while driving. It is very easy to adjust around any controls (heat, fan, etc) and you can still adjust the radio. You can also use the iPod display to adjust the tunebase to the correct radio station. This is the easiest transmitter I've found to use, and it charges the iPod while it plays. I love it!

irock Beamit Wireless Music Adapter (400FM) Review

irock Beamit Wireless Music Adapter (400FM)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Actually, I'd like to give the iRock a rating of 3.5 stars, but settled on 3 stars.
I bought the iRock to go with my 40GB iPod. Overall, I'm quite happy with it. Here are the plusses:
*easy to use/install
*small (takes up only a little space)
*coiled power cord (helps!)
*uses very little power (with the batteries)
*reception is quite good on all 4 settings in a medium/large metro area (Twin Cities, Minnesota) with a lot of radio stations
Here's the minus: I was disappointed in the clarity of sound produced by the iRock. I don't know if the decreased clarity is due to the iRock or my car stereo (an Alpine in my Honda CRV), but the sound produced by the iRock simply isn't as good as the sound I get listening to the iPod with a cheap pair of headphones. If the clarity was a bit better I'd probably give the product 4 to 5 stars.
[I have discovered that I can improve the clarity of sound if I keep the volume on my iPod low and use the car stereo to adjust the volume. The clarity is 'fine,' but isn't great.]

Belkin Mobile Power Cord for iPod with Dock Connector (White) Review

Belkin Mobile Power Cord for iPod with Dock Connector (White)
Average Reviews:

This is an extremely useful product for people who want to listen to their iPods in their car.
It beats having an FM transmitter if you connect a cassette adapter to the charger's audio jack, because then
1) Only 1 cable connects your iPod to the charger, and you get both power for the iPod and audio from the car speakers.
2) The iPod automatically goes into pause when your car (and its speakers) is turned off... something the FM transmitter cannot possibly do. This is perhaps the most underrated and undermentioned feature of the iPod and this charger. You no longer have to fiddle around with the iPod to stop it when you park your car.

Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter for iPod Mini Review

Griffin iTrip Mini FM Transmitter for iPod Mini
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The itrip mini does what it advertizes: fits the sleek lines of the mini ipod without adding much bulk at all, and transmits your tunes to a radio tuned to frequency (defaults to 87.9, but you can adjust that by installing the simple software provided with the itrip).
Living in LA, there are VERY limited options insofar as stations not in use. 87.9 is actually one of the few options. The sound quality was awful. I tried using this device in my car, in my room, in my home stereo - all with the same lousy results.
I should have listened to the advice of the salesperson at the Apple store and gotten the cassette device to play my ipod music on other sound systems.
Bottomline: it works, but sounds like music playing on a radio station that doesn't quite come in clearly - static. Poor volume, and very poor sound quality.

Car Audio Tape Cassette Adapter for MP3 Players Review

Car Audio Tape Cassette Adapter for MP3 Players
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this piece of junk thinking i would try my luck since it was only 5 bucks. Well, now i know, i should stick to the casino's if i wanna try my luck. The tape was reversing from side A to B continuosly. So, following the instructions of another user, i opened the tape and took out the black wheel next to the cassette head. That stopped the reversing, but the volume was so low you could barely hear it even after turning up the Ipod's and the Stereo's volume. I have a 30 GB Video Ipod and a Volkswagen Passat Factory installed Monsoon audio system. Do NOT buy this piece of junk, keep looking. I heard the Sony cassette adapter is good, so i'm gonna try that next. Good luck...

Griffin Technology iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod (White) Review

Griffin Technology iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This review applies to the following products:
Griffin 9781-TRP30BK iTrip FM Transmitter with Dock Connector for iPod (Black)
Griffin Technology 9500-TRIPDA iTrip LCD/FM Transmitter with Dock Connector for iPod
This transmitter works quite well if you understand its limitations.
First of all, it broadcasts on the FM band so don't expect the sound to be better than your FM radio. Secondly, it's designed to be small and portable, so it's not going to have a very powerful transmitter built in, not to mention there are probably FCC rules regarding how few watts a personal device like this is allowed to transmit (in order to prevent interference with other electronics).
If your car doesn't have an alternate method of connecting an iPod (such as via a cassette adapter, line-in jack, etc.), and you don't want to spend the money to upgrade your stereo, this is a good, cheap solution to listen to your iPod in your car.
The product description (on Griffin's web page, the product packaging, and Amazon) mistakenly states that the iTrip works with frequencies ranging from 88.1 to 107.9MHz. It's actually designed to broadcast from 87.9 to 107.9MHz. I was happy to discover that my unit was tuned to 87.9MHz out of the package, which is a barely used fringe frequency in my area, making it ideal for FM transmitters. I just had to change it from DX (mono) to LX (stereo) mode and I was in business.
The controls are extremely simple and user friendly. Changing the broadcast frequency is easy as moving the toggle switch on the side of the unit up and down. Changing it from DX to LX involves pressing the toggle switch for about 3 seconds, then toggling between the two modes, and pressing the switch again to save the setting.
The built-in mini-USB charging port is a very smart feature. It allows you to use the same charger for many popular cell phones (MOTORAZR, Blackberry, etc.) and GPS devices, reducing the need to carry around a proprietary charger just for your iPod. And unlike the iTrip Auto, you only charge when you want to, instead of letting it charge all the time (and possibly using up unnecessary charge cycles). Also, some people have reported interference when using car powered transmitters, especially if they don't have a noise suppressor installed in their stereo, so allowing the iTrip Dock to use the power from the iPod gives additional flexibility in that regard.
My iTrip Dock works pretty well if I leave it in the cup holder of my car, which is about a foot away from the stereo. I may hear a little interference if I shift it around, but for the most part it provides a satisfactory performance, and I can't really complain considering the price and convenience.
By the way, Griffin has a web-based station finder application called SmartScan that tells you the clearest frequencies in your area. Just google "griffin smartscan" and give it a try if you have problems finding usable frequencies. Good luck!
UPDATE: Be aware that the iTrip does not work well in cold temperatures. I left mine in a car overnight during a cold spell, and it did not work well (low volume and increased susceptible to interference) until the ambient air temperature warmed up. So try not to leave it in your car if you park outside in the cold.

Car Wireless Mp3 Player Fm Transmitter for Ipod Mp3 Mp4 Review

Car Wireless Mp3 Player Fm Transmitter for Ipod Mp3 Mp4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It worked first time for me. Looks like some people have had trouble. It worked on the channel like it came set -- the lowest one (107.6?). If I wiggle the plug into the headphone jack, I get static -- so I stopped wiggling. I have a 1-ton, 4WD truck with a stiff suspension and I've yet to hit a bump that causes the static.
Sound is clear and good quality. The thing is only about 2.5" long so it fits anywhere. 12V adapter is great & no replacing batteries (2) AAA's. If you don't want the power cord, it unplugs from the transmitter.
It seems that a dozen sellers market this thing under different names. It's so much cheaper than the others that it's worth a try, even if you decide you'd rather pay more for high-end unit. The expensive ones probably use the same electronics in a bigger box. ;")

Griffin iTrip Universal FM Transmitter and Charger for MP3 Players Review

Griffin iTrip Universal FM Transmitter and Charger for MP3 Players
Average Reviews:

I love this transmitter! When I first got it, I was disappointed that it seemed like you could not transmit in the best frequency of 87.9, but then I figured it out:
To change it to international mode (with the frequency 87.9 and so forth) all you have to do is hold the preset button for about 15 seconds, and the US will start flashing. Then you just hit the plus or minus to change to international mode, and voila! You now have the much coveted 87.9 frequency!
Since this transmitter will always be usable for any future mp3 player that I can imagine, (they are all going to have to have headphone jacks, right?) this means:
THIS IS THE LAST TRANSMITTER YOU WILL EVER HAVE TO BUY!
End of story. Get it. Now.

iTrip - it's not just for iPod anymore. We call this one "auto" because it gets its power from your vehicle's 12 Volt accessory outlet. And we call it "universal" because it works with any portable audio device that has a standard 1/8" headphone jack (including CDs, MP3s, cassettes, and yes, even iPod). Additionally, the "Plus" in this iTrip model is the ability to charge your player by means of a built-in USB port. Plug in your player's USB charge/sync cable, and you get to listen to your tunes while you're traveling, and arrive with a fully-charged player.
