Five stars, but only after I figured out how to operate it. It works very well and is a great value. ($7.56 with free shipping.) I was going to buy two or three in case there were some DOAs but I bought only one and it was totally operational.
But you should know the following:
1. Do not use a USB memory stick. The audio has excessive noise. The SD card is virtually free of noise. Adjust the channels on the device or remote to minimize any residual noise.
2. Hold the play/pause button on the unit down to select replay options. SINGLE, RANDOM, ALL, and FOLDER are available.
3. With the unit's display window facing up, install the SD cart with contacts facing up. Carefully wiggle the card in until the card is nearly fully inserted and just bottoms. Now press the card in until the spring loaded latch engages and the card is locked in. To remove the card, press the card in against the spring load and feel it unlatch and move slightly outward. It is now unlocked and can be removed.
4. When several folders are stored on the SD card, use the CH SET button on the remote to advance through the folders. To advance in the opposite direction, press the PICK SONG button on the remote. These buttons are clearly mislabeled but absolutely necessary to navigate through folders.
5. When naming folders, a maximum of 8 characters will appear in the display, all in caps with spaces deleted.
6. When naming files, 16 characters are available without scrolling. Upper and lower case are displayed as well as spaces. However, 4 space are used by the ".mp3" which is added to the end of the file name. This leaves 12 character for the title without scrolling. I didn't check the max number of characters with scrolling.
7. The line input works acceptably with the furnished cable. With the volume cracked up background noise was apparent when the unit was paused. Fidelity was similar to fm radio. I wasn't concerned about fidelity since I will mostly use it for audio books.
8. The range of this transmitter was very surprising. I was following another car that was transmitting and the signal in my car was loud and clear at 100 to 200 feet. I think this unit would work well transmitting to fm radios throughout the house.
