Harman Kardon DP 1US Drive and Play In-Vehicle Interface and Controller Review

Don't know what the person below is talking about --- this unit is meant to be wired directly into your factory or aftermarket head unit via RCA plugs --- NOT FM modulation! That being said, the unit can also be wired via the CD changer port located on the back of most head units, or via FM modulation (wired or wireless). However, the best sound quality comes from either the RCA or CD changer interfaces. FM modulation (wired) will give reasonable sound quality if you live in suburbia or rural areas --- if you're an urban dweller, however, you may be subject to a little or lots of static. So, if you're willing to shell out the money for this unit, then be willing to fork over a bit more to ensure you have the BEST connection interface.
Aside from all that, installation of this is a breeze. Even if you've never installed anything in your car before -- or have no xp with car stereos, you WILL be able to handle this yourself. Of course, be prepared to spend a day investigating the nether regions of your car's dash/console if you want all the cords/wires to be hidden.
Overall, this is the best ipod integration solution on the market if you want to have full functionality. Those other solutions -- like icelink, iCruze, etc. limit how you can browse your songs, albums, artists, etc. Most even force you to make playlists for browsing. The only real alternatives to the Harmon Kardon, in my opinion, are some of the new CD decks w/ ipod adapters that offer nearly full functionality (Alpine, Pioneer make some good ones....though this route will cost you over $200)
One last thing, if you do opt to have this professionally installed, make sure whoever is doing it has some xp with ipod/car integration. Some "pros" at both Circuit City and Best Buy had absolutely no clue that this could use the CD changer port on my Scion tC factory head unit and tried to tell me that my only option was either a new CD deck that was compatible or to use FM modulation --- which really would have decreased the sound quality.

The product is used in a vehicle to hook up an Ipod to a vehicles audio system. Once installed it has a five button navigation controller which controls the Ipod. The screen is like what Ipod userssee on their Ipod. There is a backlit LCD screen which mounts on the dash so the driver never takes there eyes off the raod to control the Ipod. The product can be hooked using an audio aux in, an FM wireless transmitter, or an optional FM transmitter.

The HK Drive and Play (D&P) is an excellent product that does what it says. When pruchasing this package you get the D&P as well as the in-line antenna connector. The in-line anntenna connector gives the best possible reception when using an FM transmitter/modulator. The only downside is that you most probably will have to have it installed by a professional. I had my D&P installed in my 2004 Cadillac CTS, which does not have any aux jack.
How it works: Plug your IPod into the IPod connector and the D&P allows you to control your IPod through the D&P interface. It doesn't work exactly as the IPod does, but its pretty close. The sound quality, as my installer told me, is only as good as your best FM station. But it really sounds good. When I turn off the D&P, its amazing how much FM noise and static exists. But when the D&P is on, it blocks out about 98% of that noise, so the music sounds good--definitely acceptable. Prior to this, I used a Sony FM transmitter, and about half of the time or more, the sound was not acceptable at all!
If you have no option of connecting an IPod through an aux jack, AND you have a good spot for the screen and controller, I'd definitly recommend this product. Keep in mind that by time you buy the D&P and have it installed, your wallet will be about $275 lighter. However, I was quoted $700 for a new stereo installed--and on my car, like lots of others, you lose some functionality because certain items are integrated with the stereo. On my car it was temparature, trip odometer, oil life guage, etc.
Finally, my installer also included a female aux in jack on the side of my lower dash so I can also use the D&P with my protable DVD or computer--pretty cool.

Harman Kardon DPFMT 1 US Drive and Play Wired FM Transmitter Adapter Review

The wired FM transmiter works great, the interference is minimal, you can only notice it between songs or when the song volume is very low. It is very easy to connect, even in European cars (I own a Renault), all you need is an antenna adapter.
If your stereo does not support RCA inputs (which offers the best sound quality), the best way to connect the HK adaptor for the ipod is this cable. It reduces interference significantly (I tried it both ways: wired and wirelessly and the difference is obvius)
