Crazyondigital Premium Essitial Bundle for iPod Nano (5th Generation) Review

Crazyondigital Premium Essitial Bundle for iPod Nano (5th Generation)
Average Reviews:

So the cords, cases, speakers & whatever in this bundle are fine, not super great quality obviously. The thing that sucks is I cant get the fm transmitter to work. Ive tried every possible cord configuration, the thing turns on and blanks out the selected radio station, but no music will ever go through from my ipod. also, after the AAA batteries in the thing went dead (i mustve not turned it off the last time i tried messing with it), it wont turn on, i hoped that maybe it would be able to get power from the lighter plug in thing, but apparently thats not the case. some directions would have been helpful. so now i have to go buy a different radio transmitter which basically made buying this whole package a waste of money.

Griffin iTalk Pro - Microphone Review

Griffin iTalk Pro - Microphone
Average Reviews:

This product - used for the first time today - worked perfectly. I needed to record a meeting and certainly preferred the option of that recording then becoming a digital file (visible to and stored in ITunes). Once attached to the IPod, it was a couple of clicks to simply begin recording. The two pieces of equipment 'recognized' one another without a hitch. I recorded a 40-minute meeting, came home, connected my IPod to my computer and - snap - the recorded 'memo' immediately downloaded from the IPod to ITunes. The sound quality is fine (I didn't use an additional microphone) and I especially like having a permanant copy of this meeting in a digital format. I should note this was an interview in a quiet room where the IPod was placed between two people on a desk. No ambient noises to be concerned about, no long distances to cover. Will it work under those conditions? I don't know. But it did what I needed it to do. Very handy. FYI, I recorded in 'high' quality and the file size was about 400 MB. My experience has been that Griffin delivers quality products that integrate well with Apple products. No muss, no fuss.

This adapter allows an iPod portable digital music player with a dock connector to be hooked up to and controlled by most 2005 or newer JVC receivers that have MP3-compatible CD changer controls and display the following: CD Text, MP3 folder/file names, or ID3 Tag information. All the iPod buttons will be disabled when connected to this adapter and the iPod will be controlled from the JVC receiver. With this interface, you'll be able to play your iPod music files through your JVC receiver and have all the titling information appear on the JVC's display. When this interface is connected to the JVC receiver, you cannot connect a CD changer.

I bought one of theses hoping to add the ability to listen to my mp3 player on my older clarion stereo, Well it does work but I have to crank up the volume on the mp3 player almost all of the way and also crank the stereo up very high and even after messing with various EQ settings the sound is horrible, Ear splitting highs and no lows at all.
I almost blew my out speakers and had a heart attack since I had forgotten the stereo was turned up almost all of the way when I switched the source to cd.
Nice.

Griffin Technology 4020-TALK iTalk Voice Recorder for iPod Review

Griffin Technology 4020-TALK iTalk Voice Recorder for iPod
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought the iTalk to take memos when I'm out in the field. Camera in one had, iPod in the other. I read the reviews first so knew it would be risky but it sounded ok for my uses and I got it cheap.
* Files are about 1 minute per Mb, stored as wav.
* Sound quality is understandable but not as good as AM radio.
* For a fully charged iPod, I got about 90 mins recording before the battery showed empty.
Pros
* Recording works fine, and I can dictate captions for photos as I think of them on site. Typically these are 1-2 minutes at most. I have also made an hour-long recording as a test without problems. I tried recording conversation in a cafe but it picks up too much background to be understandable.
* The best feature for photo memos is that files are time stamped, so I copy each memo to the same folder as my photos (which are also time stamped) making them easy to match up.
* iTalk can take an external mike which cuts out background white noise.
* Files are automatically sync'd to iTunes Voice Memo list and stored in the iTunes unknown artist folder. (If you have this feature set in iTunes)
Cons
* Software glitches randomly lock up the iPod under almost every condition except for the initial condition (more about this below).
* The iTalk covers the iPod lock. This is a serious design flaw given how quickly the battery drains. It means that you can't carry the iTalk connected to the iPod and easily lock the keys.
* The line that takes a mic also doubles as a line out. If headphones are connected and you try to record, the recording light shows but nothing is recorded. It creates a file but it's empty.
Hints
Prevent freezing: If the iTalk is in place when the iPod is turned on, it will often freeze. To prevent freezing, remove the iTalk before turning on the iPod every time. Under these conditions I've never had it freeze. If the iPod does sleep, to prevent freezing, remove the iTalk then insert it again (i'm not sure how often this is necessary, but I haven't had to reset the iPod since the first day).
Reset: To reset the iPod, remove the iTalk and hold down the iPod's MENU and PLAY '>||' buttons for 10 sec. I used this 5x the first day with the iTalk but haven't needed it since.
Locking: Slide a laminated card (my credit card is too thick) between the iPod and iTalk to lock, or carry the iTalk separately (annoying, but not as annoying as rebooting every time).
Saving: It's not enough to pause a recording, you need to remember to stop and save it before removing the iTalk. The MENU button will also save files.
Finding the files on PC: I have iTunes set to automatically sync files. To find the files in iTunes, look under the Voice Memos list. It's a trifle disconcerting when they disappear from one list and appear elsewhere unless you're prepared for it. On my PC, they can also be copied from
iTunes music/unknown artist/unknown album
Battery: I tried letting the battery run out while recording. It ran for ~50 minutes while the battery was showing empty then shut down with no warning. The file appears to have been saved ok.
Battery life: Check out the apple web page for battery tips (...) (I know this comment is outside the scope of iTalk, but if you use a voice recorder with the iPod, you're going to be dealing with battery issues.)
Summary
Despite the glitches, I like having a handy memo system and will keep it til something better turns up. Doesn't sound like Belkin is any better in terms of software glitches or battery life, but it looks like it would be possible to lock the iPod with the Belkin in place which would be a plus. The minus is that Belkin doesn't take an external mic.

The PA11 series iPod interfaces provide direct connection for an iPod plus an optional audio source such as satellite radio, DVD, or video game system. Both the iPod and the additional audio source are selected from the factory radioâ??s front panel. The interface adapter connects the iPod to your factory radio as if it were a CD changer, allowing direct selection of iPod playlists through the radioâ??s preset (or disc) buttons and is compatible with iPod models featuring the dock connector, including the iPod nano and 5G iPod video. For XM ready or equipped radios, the PA11VETTE also displays artist/title information on the radio's front panel. There are two operating modes available for the interface, Playlist Mode and Direct Mode. Playlist Mode uses the controls on the factory radio to provide basic navigation functions including song up/down, playlist up/down, repeat, shuffle, scan, and FF/REW functions. Direct Mode uses the iPod's click wheel to navigate through the iPod's menus and select songs, artists, playlists, etc. and the radio buttons are used only for volume, bass and treble. Both modes still charge the iPod while connected, and stops one hour after the iPod is paused to prevent over-charging. Slacker 8 GB Portable Radio with 40 Stations (Black) Review

Slacker 8 GB Portable Radio with 40 Stations (Black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The Slacker portables bring a new dimension to music listening.
Without the hassle of ripping your own MP3s, the service allows you to create your own customized radio stations and then, by WiFi or USB, load them onto the player for your enjoyment at any time.
Many reviews have discussed the player in depth, so let me address a couple of issues in regards to the older player, the G1, versus the new player, the G2.
The G1 player is obviously bigger, and while one advantage is an easier to read screen, it is a bigger package to carry around.
The G1 player also has not had any further firmware updates since March '08, while the G2 player has had frequent updates. Therefore, some important features such as improved battery life, and better USB connectivity have not (yet) been updated for the G1. Please check the slacker forums if you're thinking about buying a G1 to see if any updates have occurred since this was posted.
The G1 player lacks an equalizer control setting, while this was incorporated into the G2 player. I can't say that the G2's equalizer is worth much, as they don't have any user adjustable settings.
The G2 player has a setting to manage the WiFi settings, whereas this has not (yet) been implemented in the G1 player. This again reflects the lack of any further apparent support for this first generation player.
As the price of the 8Gb G1 player has not dropped substantially (although for a time it was selling for less than [...] from Amazon), the G2 unit appears to be the primary hardware that is receiving support from the company.
The G1 player has had an annoying habit of occasionally having a break in audio at the beginning of a song. This has not been a problem with the G2 units. It is unknown what creates the problem, but there has not been a fix issued for the G1 unit to address this issue.
Remember, if you use the web based player at [...] ..... not all the songs that can be heard on the web player are licensed to be downloaded onto the portable players. The company says that there are they are continually gaining more licensing rights, but it is unclear what percentage of music that you hear on the webplayer can be transferred to the portable player. Even with this limitation, you can create a wide variety of stations and enjoy them on the units.
However, for your money, you will probably find the G2 unit less buggy, and better supported by the company with updates.

Belkin Auto Charger for iPod (White) Review

Belkin Auto Charger for iPod (White)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Before I got this adapter, I was just using a cassette adapter and an FM transmitter in the car. In both cases the iPod was struggling to provide enough power output to provide clean undistorted sound, and still having to crank the volume control up all the way on both the car stereo and the iPod.
This product solves that problem, and charges your iPod to boot. It uses the new line out capabilities through the docking connector. You then plug your adapter into a mini-plug jack located on the power adapter. Adjust the aplifier volume on the adapter as well. The built in amplifier provides enough power now so I don't have to crank the volume on the car stereo, making the sound to be fuller, richer, more accurate and eliminating all the hiss & noise caused by having to turn up the car stereo all the way.
The only things that might need to consider is the mini-plug output for the amplifier and volume controls are on the side of the cigarette plug. While this wasn't a problem for me, people with resessed power plugs in their cars might have difficulty with it if your cassette adapter/fm transmitter doesn't have a angled plug (I have a MB that has a power adapter in a recessed ashtray and it's challenging to use that plug because of space requirements, but does work after some adjustment). Belkin should have put these on opposite sides of the device, but should only be a minor inconvience. I don't envision anyone having to adjust the output volume very often, after you set it for the first time.
I highly reccomend this product to anyone wanting to listen to their iPod in the car.

Scosche RF Remote Control for iPod classic 5G, 5.5G (Black) Review

Scosche RF Remote Control for iPod classic 5G, 5.5G (Black)
Average Reviews:

I purchased this remote for my Ipod Video (30GB). When I first took it out of the box, I was very happy, its color is the same as my iPod (black) and it also has the same width.
The unit fits OK with the iPod and the remote control is small and cool, but I found some flaws:
1. The unit easily disconnects if you maneuver the iPod in the car, for example, and I don't mean a drastic movement.
2. The remote control, it says up to 150ft.... yeah right, that is NOT true, even within the car (I have a small car) if you don't point the remote directly to the unit, it won't work. It also is kind of slow when you push the button to change a song and when the iPod actually change it.
The reason I rate this with 2 stars is because the unit, when it works, takes away that uncomfortable task to change the song by touching the iPod itself.

More importantly, the remotehandles all of the iPod video basics, including play, pause, rewind/forward, volume, shuffle, and track or playlist selection. The remote is also easy to set up: simply plug theincluded receiver into your iPod video's dock connection and you're set. And thanks tothe receiver's pass-through connection, you can add a charger, FM transmitter, orBluetooth accessory to the bottom without disconnecting the dock cable. USA SPEC PA15-TOY - iPod in-vehicle interface adapter Review

USA SPEC PA15-TOY - iPod in-vehicle interface adapter
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is one of coolest "black box" gadgets I have had in a long time. I got this USA Spec PA12TOY ipod adapter for my 2008 Toyota Tacoma with 6 CD changer factory stereo (not JBL). Installation was a breeze (simple plug & play). I popped out the stereo, where there is an empty plug waiting on the back side. A cable from the USA Spec plugs into the empty plug of the radio. Then an additional cable runs from the USA Spec to your ipod. This USA Spec has additional RCA plugs that I connected my Sirius radio into (cable not included but only a few dollars). The unit is pretty small and was easilly hidden up behind my glove box. If you search the internet you may be able to find photos of individual installations and advice on how to take your radio out (I was for the Tacoma). Important to note that your CD changer is disabled with the use of this (but who needs CDs when you have your ipod?). For my radio/vehicle, the ipod operates under CD1-CD5 (corresponding to the first 5 playlists on my ipod). CD6 is the auxillary RCA plugs (my Sirius radio). I control the ipod either on the ipod itself, through the controls on the stereo, or on the steering wheel stero controls. USA Spec appears to upgrade the unit from time to time, so you should check their website for the latest unit that goes with your vehicle. I am extremely happy with the product and will be looking for one to go with my other vehicle. Highly recommended!!!

I'm using kJames on my Mac to convert mp3/cdg files to Quicktime mp4 files. With that and a video iPod, I get a true karaoke experience and the iKaraoke works great. In my experience, vocal cancelling never really works so I expected nothing more from this. However with true karaoke files, I think you'll be pleased. We used the iKaraoke on a car trip today, and it was a blast. I only wish there were built-in mic level controls on the microphone.

I originally thought that this unit would charge my iPod, as well as mount it in my vehicle. When I received the unit, however, I found this not to be the case. On a more positive note, it does hold the iPod in a convenient location, and does have a 'pass-thru' port that allows a charger to be connected. I did not pick this up through Amazon, but at "Wal-ly World", and I paid $14.88 for it. So, I'm giving it four stars for the price. You can pick up an input cable for a couple of dollars, but as soon as I saw the remote so I don't have to keep messing with my Touch, I was sold. Does everything it says. connect one end of the remote into the iPod Touch/ iPhone, and the other into the input jack of your car... and you are hearing good/ great quality sound! As soon as I tried this method rather than my FM transmitter, I was sold and gave my transmitter away that same night. No hiss. Sounds great. Overall five stars, but the cost takes it down one star to FOUR.

this is my 6th portable digital music device so far, and i tried to avoid ipods because they always got bad reviews for malfunctioning and lacking features. this on is a different story. not only is this ipod the thinnest ipod ever made (you can stop here, apple, any further and it will vanish), its made smart, and so far its a pretty good buy for me. unlike everyone thinks cover flow cant be turned off, it can. instantly after i connected my ipod for the first time to itunes a new firmware update popped up, and one of the updates was an option to turn off cover flow, among other things.
+ pros
-incredibly thin. i cant even tell its in my pocket
-aluminum casing and glass screen offer excellent scratch resistence
-very light
-very competitive pricing - 16 gb for what the nano offers is the most affordble nano ever. the apple reputation has never been so attainable.
- accelerometer - this adds a few fun touches to operate without pressing buttons, is very useful for rotation on the screen when viewing pictures or watching videos. games are now actually very interesting
- screen clarity
-simplicity of use
-lots of colours to choose from
- cons
ITUNES - although itunes is the gold standard in today's media players, it has a tendency to use a massive amount of resources on any pc, and runs without question parallel to quicktime. if any quirks manage to occur, renstallation is required
- battery life - other than uninterrupted music playback very disappointing, especially while playing games
-everything is automated - this pertains to 1, the fact the ipod will turn on when i put in headphones, and the rest to itunes, which tries to sync entire libraries worth of music onto foreign ipods, like friends' and family
-Apple decided to require either their brand or certification to all ipod accessories, so to anyone that has bose or othere expensive docks and such, this might be a deal breaker
er, then i suppose theres a "both" category
-genius- theres something i havent noticed people mention, or if they do, its complaints. Genius is an absolutely worthless feature when used on the ipod. It works with only about 25% of PURCHASES. And it doesn't make a very satisfying playlist even when it does work. But honestly who should expect that? When you use genius on, itunes, yeah it still sucks at making playlists, and it is frustrating, but it's an excellent tool for finding new music, because it reccomends a huge list of new songs and different artists that usually appeal to your taste.
overall a big improvement compared to other ipods ive seen. the pricing and compactness, features and ease of use stand out, though the battery life and new accesory restrictions leave something to be desired. (get the 16 gb if you really want movies, or go for the classic or touch, which are both equally appealing) i give the nano ****.
